Social Security
I just reviewed my Social Security account and it seems that if I become disabled now, whether it is a legitimate disability or becoming a drug addict, I will collect more Social Security now than I will get if I work another 10 years and retire. What is wrong with this country? Oh and I blame the Democrats for this one. They give out money right and left to drug addicts, alcoholics, illegal aliens, etc.
Republicans
On Wednesday night, Gov. Palin eloquently read the speech written by the GOP. On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 344 points. Four more Republican years, anyone?
Scary
Did I actually read a Sound Off that said that Hurricane Gustav was God's punishment for Republican wrongs? Wow! It's scary just to think people that write this junk walk among us.
Experience
I have to laugh at the hypocrisy of people who bash Sarah Palin for her lack of experience while at the same time supporting Obama who has even less experience than she does.
Boat ramp
The old boat ramp next to the Interstate 93 abutment invited trouble because it was fairly well concealed. The new boat ramp would be in an open area easily viewed by all, including police patrols. Selfish neighbors along the river seem to think they own it. They don't. Let the ramp be built.
Iraq casualties
President Bush needs to do something. Too many men and women are getting killed over there in Iraq. I have a son who was over there. God blessed me with his coming home. The president needs to help the parents because it hurts when you don't see your children. My son is alive, thank God. But I still think of the ones who were killed over there.
Give her a job
Andrea Traficanti wants to work in Lawrence outside of City Hall. Why don't they put her in the DPW yard driving garbage trucks or street sweepers? Then she can get off workers' compensation. Good luck, Andrea. Enjoy the garbage route.
Obama
I am in my late 80s and I was all for Obama. I'm still thinking about it but I don't like his attitude on the abortion issue. To me that means a lot. I think they should abolish abortion because women don't have the right to kill.
Kick them out
All you people worried about the boat ramp in Methuen: It doesn't have to be that way. Sportsmen police themselves. If they aren't there to launch a boat, kick them out of there.
Green means go
To the drivers at the green lights, who are talking on their cell phones: Green means go. Don't be sleeping at the wheel. Just give it some gas and go.
Hillary
Hillary Clinton is some lady. I watched the convention. She's sincere, that's for sure. God bless her.
Comcast
It has come time for me to cut the cable with Comcast. They have systematically taken away the best stations over the years. The latest blow was when they took away the Catholic station. That really hurts the elderly, who enjoyed the daily Mass. Get rid of the cable and put up an antenna. Your picture will be better with the new digital conversion and you'll be a lot happier with your wallet full of dough.
Laboy's raise
I cannot believe that the Lawrence School Committee cannot find some way to avoid giving Superintendent Laboy a raise. He makes far too much money as it is. My God, what is wrong with this city? These are my taxpayer dollars and they're being spent foolishly.
Cemetery
I want to commend the men who take care of the Immaculate Conception cemetery. Every time I go there the lawn is cut. It's beautiful. But please fix the road. It's used a lot.
Recall Donahue
What do we have to do to start a recall of Councilor James Donahue? I can't believe Haverhill can stand another year and a half of this fellow on the council.
