Letter: Learn how to reduce carbon emissions

To the editor:

On Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m., the Hampstead Public Library is hosting a very special community event: "Simple Actions You Can Take to Reduce Your Energy Consumption And Costs, As Well As Protect NH's Changing Climate." Whether your concern is the "carbon footprint" you leave on this planet, or how to save money on energy bills, this informative program is of vital importance to you.

Founding member of the N.H. Carbon Challenge Program (a UNH initiative), Denise Blaha will present an overview of New Hampshire's shifting climate and will highlight projections for this century. She will emphasize simple steps residents can take to reduce their environmental impact and save money in the process. New Hampshire households that have taken the "Carbon Challenge" have reduced their energy consumption by an average of 17 percent and are saving up to $850 a year.

The Hampstead Public Library invites residents, business representatives, club and organization members, school and town officials to attend. This program will launch a month-long "Carbon Challenge." Let's see how Hampstead measures up to other towns that have taken the challenge. Join us at this important community event on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and find out what you can do to make a difference. Free gifts will be given to the first 25 attendees to arrive. Call the Hampstead Public Library if you have questions or check our Web site for updates, http://www.hampstead.lib.nh.us/programs.asp.
