Letter: Support Kenyon for state Senate

Published: October 8, 2008

To the editor:

One of the best pieces of legislation to come out of Concord recently was the ban on smoking in New Hampshire restaurants. Finally, my family and I can enjoy dining out without endangering our health from second-hand smoke.

This landmark legislation impacting the health of children and service workers was passed without the help of state Sen. Bob Letourneau.

Letourneau voted against the smoking ban (SB 42) even though there is overwhelming scientific evidence documenting the health risks that second-hand smoke poses to children and service workers.

Why would Letourneau vote against the health of our children? One reason might be that according to campaign finance records, Bob Letourneau has received campaign contributions from big tobacco, including R.J. Reynolds (source: www.followthemoney.org).

I'm sorry, senator, but the health of my family is not for sale.

On Nov. 4, I am going to vote for a state senator who will put my family's health first over the special interests of big tobacco.

Join me in casting a vote for Daphne Kenyon for state Senate.
