Letter: Coakley is best choice for Senate

Published: November 9, 2009

To the editor:

Just got through watching the Senate debate and have not changed my mind that Martha Coakley should be our next U.S. senator. Martha's record, as district attorney and attorney general, clearly shows she has the courage to do what is right and not just politically expedient. She has gone after predatory lenders, Big Dig contractors and public officials who have betrayed the public trust.

Since all four candidates had similar answers on virtually all the questions, I have to look at their public record. Khazei and Pagliuca have never served in elected office. That leaves only Coakley and Capuano who have public records.

Capuano tells us he is a liberal and that it was an act of courage to vote against Bush's Patriot Act. The truth is, had he voted for it, the voters in the 8th District would have thrown him out of office. He votes as an ultra-liberal because his district demands it. Someone should check his record before he went to Congress. The liberal community did not support him in Somerville.

Martha Coakley is who she says she is. That's why on Dec. 8 I'll be voting for Martha Coakley for U.S. senator. I hope you'll join me.

SAL ALBANO
