Low clearance

After reading about how a moving truck tied up traffic on Washington Street because of the low railroad bridge, I wondered why that bridge is not marked on both sides that it has a low clearance. I think the City of Haverhill could invest in two signs to mark that for truck drivers.

Sold out

Greed has taken root in the hearts of our Republican leaders. They have sold their souls to the drug and insurance companies.

Obama's support

I guess we can thank President Obama for campaigning in Virginia and New Jersey for both governors losing. I only hope he can do the same for Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Dodd, and maybe even Sen. Kerry.

Low turnout

The City of Lawrence has 70,000 people. Of that number, 36,000 are registered voters. However, only 14,000 voted in the mayoral race. That leaves 22,000 non-voters. If you didn't vote, then don't complain.

No exceptions

Why do the Democrats want to force this health care bill on us when they will not be in it? Shouldn't the health care bill include everybody in this country? Why should Congress be excluded?

Maine vote

I would like to congratulate the voters of Maine. You did the right thing in rejecting gay marriage. I wonder when we, in Massachusetts, will get the same opportunity. I forgot! Maine is governed by the people for the people and in Massachusetts it's governed by the Legislature for the Legislature.

Did it right

I cannot believe that David Abdoo was not elected. He did everything right — he had meetings, forums, public participation. Mr. Lantigua did absolutely nothing. He would not even debate. We don't even know what he's talking about because he never bothered to let us find out. I can't believe that this happened.

No gimmicks

I am refusing to shop at pharmacies, department stores and supermarkets that have gimmicks, such as needing a card to purchase sale items, offering rewards, extra bucks, discount store coupons, or coupons taken from the Internet. This is outrageous retailing. I need a separate wallet just to carry their cards and in-store paper coupons. These schemes are devious because they know we'll forget to reap the rewards at our next visit. These retailers should get rid of all of their tricks and just offer low prices and we will come to shop.

Laughing

To the person who called about Niki Tsongas and not voting for her: Do you really think it's going to make a difference? Most of her funding comes from out of state, from liberal groups like Emily's List. People in Massachusetts: Do you hear that laughing? That's the rest of the nation laughing at you because you keep putting these Democrats in office.

Pipe leaking

For the last four days an underground water pipe has been leaking in the middle of the road on Haverhill Street. The city was notified of this, but so far nothing has been done. It looks like an accident waiting to happen. The heavy traffic may collapse the road or the water may freeze over on these cold nights and cause a severe accident. I think something should be done about it.

Bumper sticker

Driving home today I noticed a not-so-old throwback political bumper sticker, the one with the initial "W" with the slash through it. Can someone please tell me where I might purchase the same sticker, only with an "H" on it?

Waking up

Thank goodness America is waking up. Liberal haven blue state New Jersey ousted a sitting Democrat governor. And Virginia which went for Obama in 2008 went Republican big. These so called blue dog Democrats up for re-election in 2010 had better take notice.
