Mascioli's homer helps lift Owls

Baseball

Timberlane built a lead and held on, edging Nashua South, 8-6. Nick Mascioli hit a 2-run home run as part of his 2-for-2 day and Dan Gallant scored twice and drove in a run.

Doug Schultz and Nick Gregsak combined for four runs and four hits, but Pinkerton fell to Manchester Central, 7-5. Zach Mathieu drove in two runs with a third-inning single.

St. John's Prep fell to Malden Catholic 9-3.

Hollis-Brookline rolled over Pelham 11-0. James Mostone slugged a solo homer for the Pythons.

Phillips defeated Pingree 7-3. Bobby Farnham of North Andover had two doubles. Bryan Farris of Derry threw a complete game three-hitter. He struck out nine and picked up the win.

Calvary Christian lost to Derryfield 25-0.

Matt Hardy went six innings, scattering five hits and striking out seven to lead Salem to a 5-2 win over Alvirne. Brad White closed out the game with a perfect seventh.

Marc Crowley was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs to lead Central Catholic to a 14-3 drubbing of Billerica. Garrett Reed had two hits and drove in a pair of runs and Ryan Kemp had an RBI and scored three runs for the Raiders, who scored nine runs in the first inning.

Softball

Gray, Blue Devils roll

Salem enjoyed perhaps its best offensive performance of the season in a 9-0 rout of Alvirne. Julia Gray (3 for 4) got things started with a two-run double in the five-run first inning, Jenn Cabral also had three hits and two RBIs and both Katie Bettencourt and Alex Gallant collected two hits and scored twice. Junior Dominique Heres picked up the win on the mound, the first of her career. She relieved Steph Cabral, who left the game when she was hit in the arm, in the fourth.

Pinkerton lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Manchester Central when the winning run scored from third on a throw to first base following a strikeout. Other than that, the Astros played their best defensive game of the year according to coach Terry Bailey, and junior pitcher Cara Chooljian was superb, throwing a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks. Kailey Brooks had a double for Pinkerton.

Timberlane had plenty of baserunners, but not enough clutch hitting in a 2-1 loss to Nashua South in 10 innings. Losing pitcher Steph Barrett stood out in defeat, throwing a three-hitter while striking out 16 and she also had the Owls' only RBI and three of their eight hits. Timberlane (6-1) stranded 15 runners in the game.

Central Catholic yielded two runs in both the first and second innings in a 5-2 loss to a veteran Dracut club (6-1). Lindsay Martin and Chelsea Guselli both collected two hits and scored a run for the Raiders (6-2).

Pelham played Hollis-Brookline tough before falling 6-2. Alie Peterson and Kayla Bailey both stroked two hits for the Pythons.

Tuesday, Whittier defeated Chelsea 24-5. It was stated that Chelsea won the game in yesterday's paper.

Brooke Beaudet had a huge day, pitching a one-hitter (she struck out 16) and hitting a home run (her sixth of the season) to lead Londonderry over Bishop Guertin, 7-0. Molly Rooney went 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

Boys Tennis

Kelly, Eaton pace Pinkerton

Pinkerton beat Manchester Central 6-3. Sean Kelly, Sam Eaton and Dan Kish won their matches.

Timberlane defeated Nashua South 6-3. The Owls were led by Chris Takesian and Steve Ratte, who each had wins in singles and doubles.

Londonderry rolled past Nashua North, 8-1. Alex Burbine and Tyler Palmieri won big.

Pelham cruised past Bedford, 8-1. Ryan Fyfe and David Pereira were victorious.

Bradford's Alex Skinner teamed up with Sam Ehrlich to win at first doubles for Brooks, which edged St. Mark's 8-7.

Szmyt, LaPointe bright spots

Bedford beat Pelham 5-4. Meghan Szmyt and Taylor LaPointe won their matches.

Londonderry swept Nashua North, 9-0. Jen Kutt, Katie Bever and Cassie Kelly won with ease.

Manchester Central defeated Pinkerton, 7-2. The doubles pair of Megan Berry and Mai-linh Dao won convincingly.

Boys Lacrosse

Hinton's flurry propels Timberlane

Timberlane squeaked by Goffstown 9-8. Chris Hinton was impressive with four goals and Alex Demaris made 15 saves to earn the win.

Sean Paradis netted two goals, but it wasn't enough as Pelham fell to Derryfield 5-4. Goaltender Andrew Keegan made 13 saves.

Girls Lacrosse

DeShaw's big day carries club

Morgan DeShaw exploded for seven goals in Timberlane's 13-4 win over Dover. Emily Cannon netted her first varsity goal, and Jill Bolduc made 13 saves.

Phillips beat NMH 17-4. Alissa Fromkin led the way for the Big Blue with six goals and an assist. Avery Stone added two goals and two assists.

Brooks beat St. Mark's 12-7. Andover's Alice Grant had a goal and an assist.

Londonderry got goals from seven different scorers in a 20-5 blowout of Nashua South. Kayla Green led the way with five goals and a pair of assists. Dana Boyle netted three goals and added two assists.

Volleyball

Leary, Torres help spike Hillies

Surging Central Catholic won its third straight match and handed Haverhill its first loss of the season, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19. Dan Leary and Manny Torres led the defense in the back row for the Raiders (5-2), Tom Gomes had 26 assists and both Rory Blinn (14 kills) and Adrian Gonzalez (13 kills, 5 blocks) were immense at the net. For Haverhill (6-1), Freddie Alves had nine kills.

Colleges

Shepard shines in loss

Merrimack College baseball fell to Southern Connecticut 14-2. Andover's Ryan Shepard was the lone bright spot for the Warriors, driving in both runs with a triple in the seventh inning.

Merrimack College softball was swept in a double-header by Southern New Hampshire 3-2, and 13-4. In the second game, Andover's Emily Cummings had a pair of hits and drove in a run.
