Methuen's Michaud helps spike CM

Volleyball

Methuen edged Catholic Memorial 20-25, 25-10, 22-25, 25-15, 15-10. Corey Michaud came up with a key kill late in the final game to secure the win. For the day, Michaud had 15 kills and three blocks. Steven Kupiec had 14 kills and two blocks while John Mosley had nine kills and six blocks from his middle hitter position. Junior setter Mark Doherty had a career-high 37 assists to go along with two digs and three blocks for the Rangers (5-8).

Phillips topped Loomis, 32-30, 18-30, 26-30, 30-27, 16-14. Alex Svec had a fine match at his setter and outside hitter positions with four kills and 15 assists while James McGuinness added eight kills and nine assists. Brian Watson had four stuff blocks and Menelik Washington added 10 kills for the Big Blue (3-7).

Baseball

Farnham provides offensive punch for Big Blue

Phillips Academy split a doubleheader with Phillips Exeter, losing the first game 5-4 and winning the second game 9-1. Georgetown's Jack Lynch had a big day behind the plate, throwing out three runners. In Game 1, he went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. North Andover's Bobby Farnham had an RBI in Game 1.

Boys Track

Tejada paces Phillips

Phillips split a tri-meet, falling to Northfield Mount Hermon and beating Loomis-Chaffee. Luinis Tejada won the 100 meters (11.62) and Chad Hollis placed first in the 400 (51.61).

Girls Track

Oskar leaps to win

Several locals shined at the Merrimack Valley Conference freshman/sophomore meet. Central Catholic's Kristen Wilson placed second in the high jump (4-10) and third in the 300 hurdles (51.6). Haverhill's Rebecca Stabile won the 300 hurdles (47.5) and placed third in the triple jump (31-0).

Methuen's Katie Oskar placed first in the triple jump (32-51/4) and Andover's Chelsea Angelosanto won the long jump with a leap of 14-0.

Phillips swept a tri-meet with Loomis Chaffee and Northfield Mount Hermon. Anna Fang won the 800 with a school-record time of 2:16.33 and Abby Levine won the 3,000 with a school-record time of 10:01.56.

Boys Tennis

Bradford's Skinner a bright spot

Brooks' senior Alex Skinner remained unbeaten and teamed with Sam Ehrlich for a win in first doubles, but Brooks fell to Roxbury Latin, 12-3.

Boys Lacrosse

Galanos pulls out all the stops

Atkinson's Nick Galanos turned in a 26-save effort to key Brooks' 8-1 win over Roxbury Latin. Olav Goelet provided the offensive for Brooks (4-8), scoring four goals and assisting on three others. Brooks Goodyear had a goal and an assist.

Girls Lacrosse

Lawson, Phillips cruise

Alissa Fromkin and Summer Washburn each scored three times as Phillips crushed Tabor, 21-9. Washburn, an Andover resident, and Sam Lawson, of North Andover, each picked up an assist in the win. Kate Foley made seven saves for the Big Blue (11-4).

Chapin Duke scored four times and Katie Herter added three more goals as Brooks beat Exeter, 15-7. Christie Donovan scored twice and assisted on four goals to help the Green and White improve to 9-1. Sewell Robinson and Liv King each had two goals for Brooks.

Colleges

Warriors stymied

The Merrimack College baseball team was no-hit in a rain-shortened 6-0 loss to Southern Connecticut. The game was called after five innings and the second game was postponed until Tuesday (3:30 p.m., at Merrimack). The Warriors fall to 13-16 in the Northeast-10 (18-26 overall) and will miss the NE-10 tourney.

Varitek hosting mini-golf event

Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek is hosting the Jason Varitek Celebrity Putt-Putt at Ferncroft Country Club in Middleton on June 9 at 7 p.m. The event will benefit Saints Medical Center in Lowell.

Boxing

Lawrence KO artist back in action

Hard-punching Lawrence middleweight Eddie Caminero will be fighting Wednesday at the Roxy in Boston. Caminero, who has won all three of his bouts with devastating knockouts, will take on William Armstead of Columbus, Ohio, on the undercard of the ESPN2 Wednesday Night Fights card.

It's up in the air whether the Caminero fight will be televised. The headline fight is Mike Oliver vs. Reynaldo Lopez.
