Owls' Hinton riddles Brady bunch

Boys Lacrosse

Chris Hinton scored six goals and Ryan Lewis and Jake Schlichte added three apiece as Timberlane hammered Bishop Brady 17-4. Derek Furey added two goals. Ryan Rothwell dished out four assists and Hinton and Matt Bouchard added three helpers apiece.

Max Zdrada and Eric Hebert anchored the defense. Alex Desmarais continued his fine play in net with seven saves as the Owls improved to 8-3.

Hanging with a strong Billerica squad through the brunt of three quarters, Central Catholic impressed but eventually fell to the Indians, 13-7. Josh Clark, Corey Hamilton, Matt LaFrance and Matt Smith put up an aggressive defense to keep the Raiders (8-6) in the hunt.

Girls Track

Higgins struts her stuff

Concord ran away with the 4x400 relay to hold off Salem 761/3-682/3. Freshman Melissa Higgins showed impressive versatility by winning the 200, 400 and long jump for the Blue Devils.

Behind Boston College recruit Sara Missert, who had three impressive efforts to capture the long jump, triple jump and 400, Central Catholic won its battle of unbeatens with Haverhill, 87-58, clinching at least a share of the MVC Large title. Central improved to 4-0 with just its dual meet against Andover remaining.

Lauren Berg won the shot and javelin and Kylie Giroux and Katie Lafrance set personal bests to win the discus and high hurdles, respectively.

Alvirne slipped past Pinkerton, 81-78, in a tri-meet which also featured overmatched Goffstown. Bree Robinson won the 100, triple jump and long jump to pace the Astros. Aryon Trujillo led a 1-4 sweep of the 1,600.

Londonderry broke the tape in the 4x400 with a fine 4:08.9 clocking but it was too little, too late as Manchester Central prevailed 74-71. Super sophomore Becca Parascandola won the high jump and both hurdles to lead the Lancers.

Chelsea swept PMA and Whittier. PMA also bested the Wildcats 104-30. In that matchup, PMA's Tori Hodson won three events and Meg Peeler took two and ran on the winning relay.

Baseball

Curry pushes Astros past West

Pinkerton held off Manchester West 5-4. Winning pitcher Nick Gregsak allowed four runs on six hits and struck out three. Pat Curry drove in two runs while Zach Mathieu went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Pat Noone went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored in his first varsity start to help Central Catholic past Chelmsford 12-3. Marc Crowley backed him with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring twice and knocking in three runs.

Despite a strong first outing on the hill from Scott McCully, Calvary Christian fell to Wilton-Lyndeborough, 8-3. McCully also added a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Eagles.

Boys Track

Bice, Lancers soar

Londonderry dumped Manchester Central 90-55. Brenden Bice led the way, soaring 12-6 in the pole vault and taking the 110 hurdles in 15.4. Glenn Law swept all three jumping events.

Pinkerton won 11 events to pound Alvirne and Goffstown in a tri-meet. Jeff Manzik (300 hurdles, triple jump) and Adam Hoidahl (javelin, discus) were double-winners.

Salem lost to Concord 79-66 despite the efforts of Mike Marshall, who won four events. Marshall's 15.1 in the 110 hurdles and 6-4 in the high jump are among the best in the area this year. He also won the long jump and ran in the 4x100 relay with Nick Cavallo, Alex Miller and Max Jaques.

KB Oshodi won the long jump and triple jump and anchored the winning 4x100 team as Central Catholic cruised past Haverhill 115-30. Other Central double winners were Chris Wilbar (100, 400) and Chris Farren (shot put, discus).

Central will be at fellow unbeaten Andover next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. with the MVC Large title going to the winner.

Softball

Astros drop nine-inning heartbreaker

Pinkerton had a potential victory slip through its fingers, dropping a 6-2, nine-inning decision to Manchester West. Katie Miller's two-run single in the first was encouraging, but the Astros (4-9) were shut down the rest of the way. Shannon Doherty had a single and double for Pinkerton.

Pelham lost to St. Thomas 7-3. Jacqui Perry drilled a two-run double that rolled into the street beyond left field and Amanda Levesque was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run.

Girls Tennis

Gustafson, Sproul dominate

Timberlane defeated Merrimack 7-2. Chelsey Sproul won fifth singles 8-0. Haley Gustafson rolled in first singles and teamed with Katie Veasey for a doubles win.

Manchester West breezed past Pinkerton 6-3. Laurel Salladay and Summer Burns battled back from being down 6-3 in first doubles to win in a tiebreaker for the Astros.

Central Catholic broke into the win column for the first time, topping Tewksbury, 4-1. The first doubles pairing of Casey Cook and Mia Berni won the day's feature match, pulling out a second set tiebreaker for the triumph.

Girls Lacrosse

Pinkerton pitches shutout

Pinkerton blanked Memorial 19-0 behind four Nicole Curry goals. Sammi Benson and Kayla Granoff chipped in with two scores each.

Salem pressured Concord for much of the afternoon but just couldn't get on top, eventually falling 15-11. Kyleigh Keating scored three times including her 50th of the season, with Sara Halbick netting five goals for the Blue Devils (5-5).

...

Londonderry crushed Keene 16-4 as Kayla Green tallied four goals and five assists. Marcie Marino added four goals and four assists.
