The Hillies have a pulse. Sean Hayden layed down a squeeze bunt that scored Leif Sorenson with the winning run in Haverhill's 7-6 victory over Tewksbury. With the win, Haverhill creeps to within two games of the Redmen atop the MVC small standings. The Hillies' Bobby Shirling tied the game with a two-out, two-run single in the sixth. Hayden finished the day with three RBIs, Ronny Rosario rapped two hits and an RBI and Sorenson pitched a complete game, striking out seven and allowing only two earned runs.

Kevin O'Leary spun a gem, going seven innings and allowing four hits and a single run — unearned — in North Reading's 2-1 win over Georgetown. Andrew Barba drove in the Royals' lone run. Ironman Tim Holland was the tough-luck loser for Georgetown.

Brendan Walsh struck out eight and went the distance to lead Central Catholic to a 7-1 victory over Methuen. The Raiders bounced back from Wednesday's 20-10 loss to Andover by playing errorless baseball.
Robbie Taylor went 2 for 3 and Andrew Guyer drove in a pair of runs. Jhiomar Veras drove in the Rangers' lone run.

A.J. DeRoche went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs at the plate, and tossed a complete game to propel Whittier past Greater Lawrence, 13-5. Eddie Terrero backed him up with strong defensive work behind the plate and a big RBI triple. John Cote was 2 for 4 with two solo home runs for the Reggies.

Pentucket got off to a slow start but battled back to eventually top Wilmington, 10-3. Mike Sloban went the distance and kept the game close early and Jordan Silva was 3 for 4 with two triples and three runs scored.

Kyle Pettoruto of Andover started the winning rally with a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh, helping St. John's past St. Peter-Marian, 3-2.
Andover's Dan Haugh scored the tying run on a wild pitch, while Methuen's Chris Carmain pitched the complete-game win, striking out eight in a six-hitter.

Early offense carries Hillies
Haverhill got five runs in the first inning and then held on to slide past Lawrence, 5-4. Alicia Briggs had a 2-run single to score what would eventually be the winning run for the Hillies.

Samantha Dietrich's homer helped Whittier to a 4-0 win over Greater Lawrence. Emily Pomer recorded two hits and drove in a run and Kendra Hobbs had the other RBI for the Wildcats. For the Reggies, Kaleigh Gilbert had a hit.

Alex Moise was 4 for 4 with a home run and four runs to lead North Reading to an 11-1 win over Georgetown. Mikaela Carney was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs and Amanda Poplaski scored a run for the Hornets. For the Royals, Sarah Osborne had a hit and scored a run.
Boys Track
Whittier Tech toppled
Chris Pendleton won the triple jump, 100 and ran on the winning 4x100 relay team, but Whittier fell to Shawsheen, 81-55. Matt Burke won the javelin and Kobie Jackson took the high jump for the Wildcats.
Girls Track
Sachems' Broz vaults to title
Pentucket's Ellen Broz made the trip to Hingham worth her while yesterday, capturing the pole vault gold medal at the State Coaches Invitational meet.
Broz broke her own school record, clearing 9-6. Already, Broz, is vaulting two feet higher than her best effort in 2007.

Lisa Leak won the discus and ran on the winning 4x100 relay team, but Whittier lost to Shawsheen, 91-37. Kimberly Martin added a win in the 2-mile and ran on the relay for the Wildcats.

PMA won all but one event and bested Greater Lawrence 110-21. The Panthers also beat Northeast, 96-39. Tori Hobson won the long jump, triple jump and 300 hurdles, Soleil Le took the 100 hurdles and Leah Mulroney took the two-mile for the Panthers.

Haverhill swept
Fabian Schramm was Haverhill's lone winner in a 4-1 boys loss to Chelmsford.

Yuri Oiwake won first singles 6-1, 6-3 but the good start didn't help Haverhill in a 3-2 girls loss to Chelmsford.

Hartford, Royals go on offensive
Shannon Hartford led the way with six goals and five assists in Georgetown's 15-8 win over Wilmington. Robyn Scotti added a pair of goals and Emily Messelaar added two more.

Theresa Whittredge scored four goals as Haverhill drubbed Malden, 15-3. Erin Foley, Lindsay Hirshfield, Jackie Pereira and Meaghan Sherlock each scored twice for the Hillies.
Volleyball
Alves, Hillies sky for win
Haverhill knocked off Methuen in three straight games, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18. Freddie Alves dominated up front with 16 kills and five blocks. Brett Pettis added nine killes, and Justin Limoli served four aces with 34 assists.
For Methuen, Steven Risacher delivered six kills and served six points. Corey Michaud chipped in 12 kills and had two blocks. Scott Yim played a strong defensive game.

Lawrence swept Central Catholic 25-23, 25-18, 25-19. Jimmy Rojas had 15 kills, Jeffrey Matos finished with 14 kills and eight blocks and Ramon Heredia had six kills. Pat Guidi led the Raiders (8-5) with 19 service points and three aces.
