Yu delivers game-winner for Andover

Softball

Nina Yu doubled home Megan Pettoruto with the winning run in Andover's 8-5 victory over Winthrop in eight innings. Jeanette Doucette recorded a whopping five hits and two RBIs while Kerry McCarthy knocked three hits and one RBI and Meaghan McCarthy notched a hit and two RBIs for the Golden Warriors, who have won three in a row.

Greater Lowell edged Presentation of Mary 5-4. Joelle Bechara and Katie St. Peter each drove in a run.

Haverhill got five runs in the first inning and then held on to slide past Lawrence, 5-4. Alicia Briggs had a 2-run single to score what would eventually be the winning run for the Hillies.

Samantha Dietrich's homer helped Whittier to a 4-0 win over Greater Lawrence. Emily Pomer recorded two hits and drove in a run and Kendra Hobbs had the other RBI for the Wildcats. For the Reggies, Kaleigh Gilbert had a hit.

Alex Moise was 4 for 4 with a home run and four runs to lead North Reading to an 11-1 win over Georgetown. Mikaela Carney was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs and Amanda Poplaski scored a run for the Hornets. For the Royals, Sarah Osborne had a hit and scored a run.

Baseball

Walsh, Central rebound

Brendan Walsh struck out eight and went the distance to lead Central Catholic to a 7-1 victory over Methuen. The Raiders bounced back from Wednesday's 20-10 loss to Andover by playing errorless baseball.

Robbie Taylor went 2 for 3 and Andrew Guyer drove in a pair of runs. Jhiomar Veras drove in the Rangers' lone run.

Kevin O'Leary spun a gem, going seven innings and allowing four hits and a single run — unearned — in North Reading's 2-1 win over Georgetown. Andrew Barba drove in the Royals' lone run. Ironman Tim Holland was the tough-luck loser for Georgetown.

North Andover took advantage of the cozy confines at Triton, pounding three home runs in a 10-4 win.

Ryan Sifferlen, Brent Ringland and Taylor Livingston all went long for the Cape Ann-leading Knights.

Sifferlen, making his varsity mound debut, tossed five shutout innings of relief for the win.

Kyle Pettoruto of Andover started the winning rally with a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh, helping St. John's past St. Peter-Marian, 3-2.

Andover's Dan Haugh scored the tying run on a wild pitch, while Methuen's Chris Carmain pitched the complete-game win, striking out eight in a six-hitter.

Ruben Sosa and Harvey Blanco knocked back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning to lead Lawrence to a 12-0 drubbing of Billerica. Mike Calzetta pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit and striking out seven and Jose Sandoval drove in a pair of runs on two hits for the Lancers.

Outdoor Track

Heredia lifts Reggies

Hector Heredia and Davis Anziani led the way with two wins each for Greater Lawrence in a 79-57 boys win over Northeast.

Presentation of Mary's girls won all but one event and bested Greater Lawrence 110-21. The Panthers also beat Northeast, 96-39. Tori Hobson won the long jump, triple jump and 300 hurdles, Soleil Le took the 100 hurdles and Leah Mulroney took the two-mile for the Panthers.

Tennis

Knights sharp again

North Andover defeated Triton, 4-1, in boys play. Josh Tang and Alex Shumway won in straight sets at first doubles and Matt Channen won in straight sets at second singles.

Wilmington dropped North Reading's girls, 4-1. Stephanie Viall and Ritu Scaria were the Hornets' only winners, taking second doubles 6-4, 6-3.

Boys Lacrosse

Collura, North Andover score in OT

Steve Collura isolated his defender, broke free and fired the puck into the corner of the net to give North Andover an 8-7 overtime victory over Hamilton-Wenham. Collura finished with a team-high three goals, Jon Blackwell scored twice and Alex Blane, Brian Amor and Kyle Dolan each tallied one goal for the Scarlet Knights.

Ipswich beat North Reading, 8-2. Derek Marenholz and Matt Clemens scored the Hornets' goals.

Girls Lacrosse

Andover falls

Despite three goals and two assists from Ilana Cohen, Andover fell to Needham, 14-13. Heather Sullivan and Katelyn Caro each had a hat trick and Jess Forster and Catherine Gross each scored twice for the Golden Warriors.

Volleyball

Red-hot Lancers sweep

Lawrence swept Central Catholic 25-23, 25-18, 25-19. Jimmy Rojas had 15 kills, Jeffrey Matos finished with 14 kills and eight blocks and Ramon Heredia had six kills. Pat Guidi led the Raiders (8-5) with 19 service points and three aces.

Haverhill knocked off Methuen in three straight games, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18. Freddie Alves dominated up front with 16 kills and five blocks.

For Methuen, Steven Risacher delivered six kills and served six points. Corey Michaud chipped in 12 kills and had two blocks. Scott Yim played a strong defensive game.
