Astros KO high-powered Hanover

Boys Lacrosse

In a showdown between two of the top teams in Division 1, Pinkerton topped Hanover, 7-2. Bobby Dattilo and Tom Auger each scored twice for the Astros (12-1) and Mike White turned aside nine shots to secure the win. Hanover drops to 11-2.

Baseball

Phillips sweeps

Mike Ciummei's two-run homer in the first proved to be the game's only offense in Phillips' 2-0 win over Deerfield, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Big Blue (12-2) won the second game, 4-2, behind the six-inning pitching of J.R. Santaniello.

Preston Atteberry pitched five innings of shutout ball in game one and Glenn Stowell earned a save on both ends of the doubleheader. Jack Walsh and Ryan McCarthy each had two hits in the game two victory.

Thayer defeated Brooks 5-3. Andover's Danny Conway had two hits for the Green and White.

Softball

Sullivan powers Brooks

Britt Hart struck out a career-high 19 batters and hit a solo home run as Brooks steamrolled Thayer, 11-1. Kristen Sullivan of Salem, N.H., who leads the team in hitting, was 2 for 4 and scored three runs and freshman Andrea Missert was 2 for 3 as Brooks improved to 8-5.

Phillips Academy senior Michelle Hollebeke, pitching the most innings of the year, won both ends of a doubleheader sweep, 15-0 over Stoneleigh-Burnham and 8-3 over Deerfield. Hollebeke improved to 7-1 with three innings of work in the first game and six innings in the second game. 15-0,

Sarah Onorato of North Reading, who came into the day hitting .605, was 6 for 8 with four runs scored for the Big Blue (10-3), Emily Cokorinos was 4 for 8 with three RBIs and Stephanie Clegg was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and four runs scored.

Boys Track

Pelham's Paquin leaps to victory

Pelham, competing in the Black Bear Invitational at Coe-Brown, got a first in the long jump from Todd Paquin. He was measured at 20-1/2. Also, Cameron Robidoux came in sixth in the 100 meters.

Pinkerton won the Kiwanis Freshman/Sophomore meet. Chris Evans won the triple jump, Chris Pietrocarlo won the 1,600 and Doug Ainscow won the 3,200.

Girls Track

Pinkerton second in Salem

Pinkerton placed second, the highest local finisher at the Kiwanis Freshman/Sophomore meet. Sammy Graziani won the pole vault, Katy Ebner placed first in the shot put and Salem's Amy Desrosiers placed first in the discus.

Girls Lacrosse

Marino's super seven lifts Londonderry

Sophomore Marcie Marino scored seven times and Dana Boyle added four more as Londonderry had no trouble in an 18-6 win over Nashua South. Boyle also picked up two assists and Kayla Green added three goals. Taylor Hadcock made six saves for the Lancers (10-3).

Phillips fell on the wrong side of an 11-3 decision to Loomis. Goalie Kaitlin Gaiss was busy all day and made 24 saves. The Big Blue falls to 7-4.

Brooks outlasted Thayer 12-11 to improve to 11-1 on the year. Chapin Duke led the scoring with five goals and both Katie Herter and Margaret Klein chipped in with three goals apiece.
