Girls Lacrosse Andover, trailing 3-1, went on a 10-1 run and went on to rout a good Billerica team, 21-11. Kelly Driscoll led the scoring with six goals, Heather Sullivan scored four times and Ilana Cohen added five assists to three goals. "We turned aggressive and had some great passing," said Andover coach John McVeigh, whose club improved to 11-4. ... Phillips fell on the wrong side of an 11-3 decision to Loomis. Goalie Kaitlin Gaiss was busy all day and made 24 saves. The Big Blue falls to 7-4. ... Brooks outlasted Thayer 12-11 to improve to 11-1 on the year. Chapin Duke led the scoring with five goals and both Katie Herter and Margaret Klein chipped in with three goals apiece.
Baseball Phillips sweeps pair ><p>
Mike Ciummei's two-run homer in the first proved to be the game's only offense in Phillips' 2-0 win over Deerfield, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Big Blue (12-2) won the second game, 4-2, behind the six-inning pitching of J.R. Santaniello. Preston Atteberry pitched five innings of shutout ball in game one and Glenn Stowell earned a save on both ends of the doubleheader. Jack Walsh and Ryan McCarthy each had two hits in the game two victory. ...><p>
Kevin Singer pitched a complete game six-hitter while helping himself out with a hot bat during North Reading's 12-2 win over Amesbury. At the plate, Singer hit three doubles and drove in three to help the Hornets improve to 12-1. ... Whittier romped over Notre Dame of Lawrence twice, 16-0 and 19-1, with both games going just five innings. Ethan Mooradian pitched hitless ball in the opener and four pitchers allowed just one hit in the second game. John Tannian, John Campbell and A.J. DeRoche all had home runs and DeRoche had five RBIs for the two games.
Thayer defeated Brooks 5-3. Andover's Danny Conway had two hits for the Green and White. ... Georgetown scored in the first inning but that was it in a 9-1 loss to Masconomet. Andrew Barba had an RBI hit for the Royals (8-6).
Softball Brooks' Hart fans 19
Britt Hart struck out a career-high 19 batters and hit a solo home run as Brooks steamrolled Thayer 11-1. Kristen Sullivan of Salem, N.H., who leads the team in hitting, was 2 for 4 and scored three runs and freshman Andrea Missert was 2 for 3 as Brooks improved to 8-5. ... Phillips Academy senior Michelle Hollebeke, pitching the most innings of the year, won both ends of a doubleheader sweep, 15-0 over Stoneleigh-Burnham and 8-3 over Deerfield. Hollebeke improved to 7-1 with three innings of work in the first game and six innings in the second game. 15-0, Sarah Onorato of North Reading, who came into the day hitting .605, was 6 for 8 with four runs scored for the Big Blue (10-3), Emily Cokorinos was 4 for 8 with three RBIs and Stephanie Clegg was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and four runs scored.
Boys Tennis Andover netmen advance Andover's Eric Heath and Bjorn Merinder each won two matches to advance to today's second round of the North Individual meet. The double teams of Adam Trotta-Josh Mack and Shane Huggins-Nitin Maheash also advanced.><p>

Brooks got blanked by Thayer Academy. Alex Skinner of Bradford played well at No. 1 singles, but lost his first match of the season.
Boys Lacrosse North Reading succumbs North Reading played Lynnfield tough before falling, 8-4. Matt Clemens had three goals and an assist for the Hornets and Ryan Visconti made 23 saves.
Volleyball Rangers step up
Methuen received some much-needed help from two previously untapped sources — JV call-up Jonathan Cruz (8 kills, 2 blocks) and Neil Patel (7 digs and 11 service point), who both came up big in the final three games of Methuen's 18-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22 win over Catholic Memorial. Steven Kupiec had a career high 21 kills (on 23 attempts) and Mark Dougherty had 32 assists and four blocks. The win keeps Methuen's (7-10) playoff hopes alive. ... Phillips defeated Choate, 32-30, 19-30, 30-20, 20-30, 17-15. Brian Watson led the Big Blue (2-4) with 12 kills and Menelik Washington added nine. ... St. John's Prep downed Andover, 3-1. In a marathon second game, Luke Frick of North Andover ignited the Eagles and paved the way to victory. Tim Lynch of Andover dominated the clinching game with some deft work around the net.
