Hillies' Rosario delivers with bat and glove

Baseball

Six Haverhill errors gave Dracut a three-run lead, but a pair of four-run explosions turned the tide as the Hillies prevailed, 9-6. Ronny Rosario had three hits and threw out a pair of Middie baserunners. Taylor Robinson delivered a two-run double and Josh Chasse clouted an RBI triple for the Hillies.

Methuen, after falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, battled back to defeat Lowell 6-5 in nine innings.

Central Catholic edged Chelmsford 5-4. Ryan Kemp went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a leadoff-triple. Unbeaten Zak Adamopoulos picked up his fourth win of the season, going 62/3 innings and giving up four runs.

Softball

Briggs dazzles on mound, at plate

Haverhill improved to 10-3 with a 4-1 win over Billerica. Alicia Briggs had her best game of the season, according to coach Bob Walsh, throwing a two-hitter while striking out five. She also led the offense with two hits, one of which started the four-run fifth inning. Katelyn Demers had a key RBI for the Hillies. Colleen Whalen and Megan Leo also drove in runs.

Pentucket fell to Ipswich 12-4 despite a three-run double from Tyne Darke and a pair of hits and an RBI from Stephanie Hallowell.

North Andover (10-2) qualified for the tournament for the third straight year with a 6-2 win over Manchester Essex Ali McCarthy was 2 for 3 and scored twice and Krissy Whitley, who is hitting over .500, ripped a long 2-run double.

Presentation of Mary scored six runs in the top of the seventh in a 13-7 win over Greater Lawrence. Freshman Jessica Goulet and Katie St. Peter both had two-run doubles for the Panthers.

Lisa Policelli was 4 for 5 with three runs and three RBIs as Central Catholic downed Lawrence 9-4. Monique Gosselin was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs and Tina Eringis and Carla Borrelli each had a hit and an RBI for the Raiders.

Georgetown fell to Masconomet 17-0 on a six-inning no-hitter by Alyssa Rescigno.

Timberlane senior Stephanie Barrett, despite being touched for eight hits and six runs, struck out 14 in a 10-6 win over Bishop Guertin and helped her own cause with a two-run homer. Courtney Marchand (2 for 4) scored three runs and drove in a pair for the Owls (13-2).

Amesbury scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to shock defending Division 3 state champion North Reading, 4-1. Abby Pare and Kate Hathaway both had two hits and scored twice for Amesbury (12-3).

Surging Salem won its seventh straight game, clipping Manchester Central 7-3. Freshman Steph Cabral and Alex Gallant both ripped three hits and had an RBI and Erica DePinto added two hits and an RBI to the 12-hit attack.

Sanborn scored five runs in the first inning and romped past Farmington 11-2. Katie Latham slugged a three-run homer and two-run triple for five RBIs to lead the way and Kara Morgenstern (2 for 3) drove in two runs and scored twice.

Jacobson rallies for Hillies

Ramie Jacobson pulled out a three-set victory at first singles and Fabian Schramm rolled at No. 3 to lead Haverhill, which lost to Billerica 3-2.

Girls Tennis

Oiwake prevails for Haverhill

Yuri Oiwake was Haverhill's lone winner in a 4-1 loss to Billerica.

Cara Freitas (6-1, 6-3) had the only victory for Pentucket in a 4-1 setback to Hamilton-Wenham. Sarah Dillon and Cecily Bigham took their doubles match to three sets before falling for the Sachems (4-6).

Boys Lacrosse

O'Connor keys Prep

Led by the tenacious defensive play of senior Brogan O'Connor of Haverhill, St. John's held off Xaverian, 10-9, to clinch at least a share of the Catholic Conference title. O'Connor has the best takeaway/giveaway ratio for the 12-2 Eagles.

Pentucket led by two goals after the first quarter, but could not hold on and fell to Gloucester, 9-2. Josh Haley and Alex Connolly each scored once for the Sachems.

Central Catholic survived a tough day to best Triton, 8-4. Corey Hamilton drew the assignment of marking the Vikings' top scorer and shut him down with help from defenseman Josh Clark. Joe McCarthy led the Raiders (9-7) with three goals and two assists.

Girls Lacrosse

Royals qualify again

Georgetown qualified for the tournament for the second straight year with an 11-6 win over Manchester Essex. Shannon Hartford led the way with four goals and two assists for the Royals. Alyssa Rosenthal, Robyn Scotti and Katherine Falzareno played well defensively.

Central Catholic fell to Shawsheen 10-7. Kelsey Richards scored four goals for the Raiders and Lisa Grant played well in goal in the second half after Liz Steele went out with an injury.

Behind 10 different goal scorers, Andover downed Haverhill, 11-3. Theresa Whittredge's two goals paced the Hillies and Alyssa Mahoney was a standout on defense.

Volleyball

Pettis, Alves pace Hillies

Haverhill rolled past Billerica 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 to improve 12-4. Brett Pettis and Freddie Alves led the way with 17 and 15 kills, respectively, Ash Lawless chipped in with eight kills, Justin Limoli had 37 assists and Chris Powers added three aces along with nine digs.

Central Catholic cruised to a 25-9, 25-23, 27-25 victory over Lowell. Senior libero Dan Leary provided hustling defense for the Raiders and Mukena Mbiye (18 service points, 3 aces, 3 kills and 3 blocks) had a superb overall effort. Central improved to 9-5.
