Boys Tennis Salem remains unbeaten In one of its tougher tests, Salem remained unbeaten by fending off Manchester Central, 6-3. Jeff Bunker and Joel Vastl provided half of the Blue Devils' scoring, winning at second and fourth singles, respectively, then combining to prevail at No. 2 doubles. ... A sweep through doubles play allowed Con-Val to escape with a 5-4 triumph over Pelham. David Pereira and Brady Tryon toughed out 8-5 victories at fourth and fifth singles, respectively, to keep the Pythons close. ... Manchester West (12-1) help off a hard-charging Londonderry squad for a 5-4 victory. Boys Lacrosse Lancers stun Hanover Londonderry rallied in the second half for a huge 8-7 win over defending state champion Hanover, the first win over the Marauders in five years. Justin Sproul led the way with six goals and had an assist on the game-winner, a fast-break goal by Kyle Pedrick. "It was a great win for us," said Lancers' coach Joe McCune. "A big key was when we moved Jimmy Curro up to take faceoffs in the second half." ... Pelham scored two goals in every quarter in an 8-5 win over Milford. Senior libero Dan Leary provided hustling defense for the Raiders and Mukena Mbiye (18 service points, 3 aces, 3 kills and 3 blocks) had a superb overall effort. Central improved to 9-5. ... Seniors Luke Frick of North Andover and Pat Walsh of Salem starred as St. John's whipped Dracut, 3-0, on Senior Night. The two proved to be talented and tough as they were involved in a nasty collision but shook it off and played on.
