Sean Hayden allowed just five hits over six inning to earn his sixth win of the season as Haverhill whipped Methuen 17-0. Steve Lesiczka was 4 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs, and Taylor Robinson, Ronny Rosario, Hayden and Josh Chasse also each knocked in two runs. For the Rangers, Steve Saba had two hits.

Tim Holland rapped his 100th career hit and fanned 11 in five innings to help Georgetown roll past East Boston 18-6. Holland had two hits on the day and Jeff Rollins was 3 for 5 with four RBIs.

Ruddy Espinal pitched seven innings of three-hit ball to allow Lawrence to have its way with Whittier 7-1. Ruben Sosa provided all the offense the Lancers needed, going 3 for 3 with a two-run triple. Colby Starner had two of the Wildcats' three hits.

Sophomore Jason Buco of Methuen tossed a complete-game, four-hitter with nine strikeouts in Brooks' 6-2 triumph over Governor's Academy. Dorian Sierra blasted his first career home run and Greg DelGuidice's two-run single put Brooks over the top.

Central Catholic defeated Martha's Vineyard 6-2. Brendan Walsh slugged a two-run homer to give the Raiders the lead for good in the seventh inning. He finished 3 for 4. Zack Lattrell helped keep Central in it, striking out six batters, and allowing two runs (1 earned).
Softball
Betances shines but Hillies lose heartbreaker
After failing to qualify last year, Andover qualified for the state tournament for the 10th time in 11 years with a 6-5 comeback win over Haverhill. The victory also gave the Golden Warriors (10-8, 9-5 in MVC) a shot at the MVC small school title.
Dracut is 9-4 in the league with a game remaining against Tewksbury.
"It was definitely a big win for us," said Andover coach Stephanie Ragucci, "especially coming on Senior Day, at home."
Trailing 5-4 in the seventh, Jeanette Doucette (3 for 4, 3 runs) homered to tie the game and Alex Strock (2 for 3) tripled home Tricia Martin, who had walked, with the game-winner. Doucette is now 12 for 18 over the last five games.
Also for the Warriors, Kerry McCarthy (2 for 4) tripled and scored a run.
For Haverhill, Lisa Betances (2 for 3) smacked a solo home run in the fifth and had two RBIs and Alex Stasio was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Betances is now hitting .420 on the year.

Presentation of Mary ended its season with a 9-5 loss to Notre Dame. In a game marred by 19 walks, freshman Joelle Bechara was 2 for 3 for PMA, which finished up at 6-10.

Pentucket smashed Newburyport 17-6 behind Paige Sutherland, who was 2 for 4 with a three-run double and four RBIs. Emily Perron went 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI triple.

Central Catholic lost a pitchers' duel to Tewksbury, 2-1. The Raiders managed only one hit, an infield single by Rachel Wyrwa in the sixth, off Tewksbury ace Marissa Fiorentino, who struck out 11. Liz Habib took the loss, allowing just four hits and one earned run.

Manchester-Essex downed Georgetown 17-4. Mel Prior drove in a pair of runs while freshman Sarah Erlandson and sophomore Hannah Birnie had two hits each for the Royals.

Pendleton, Trickett strut their stuff
Chris Pendleton and Bryan Trickett helped power Whittier to a second-place finish in the State Vocational Meet. Pendleton easily topped the field in the long jump (20-3) and placed third in the 100 (12.1) while Trickett was tops in the javelin (157-4), beating teammate Matt Burke by over 11 feet. Pendleton and Trickett also joined with Paul Buccos and Matt Miles for a second in the 4x100.

In the girls' meet, Whittier came close in several events but didn't score. Freshman Kimberly Martin placed seventh in the long jump (12-4). Classmate Katherine Labrecque shattered her personal best in the mile (6:51.79), finishing seventh.

Barberio, Sall power Hillies
Haverhill trimmed Central Catholic 3-2 thanks to some excellent play from its doubles teams. Carolyn Sall and Liz Barberio prevailed at No. 1 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Kristin Kelly and Callie Garrison won 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 2. Central's Sara Guselli won 7-6, 6-1 at third singles.

Central Catholic swept Haverhill 5-0 in boys' action. Joe Zucchi and Chris Katsoulis starred in a 6-2, 6-1 doubles victory.

Dunn deal in triple-OT
Pentucket beat Newburyport in triple overtime after unlikely hero Kevin Dunn picked up a rebound and fired home his fourth goal of the season, making the score 11-10. Dylan Chase led the Pentucket attack with four goals, and Alex Connelly backed him up with three.

Joe McCarthy and Patrick Helfrich both had hat tricks to propel Central Catholic over Dracut 12-5. Shain Jowett and Nick Mann backed up the leaders with two goals apiece.

Haverhill kept Lowell off the scoreboard in the first half and held on for a 7-6 triumph. Alyssa Mahoney and Kaleigh Hanes sparked the defense and Theresa Whittredge scored three times.

Brooks pulled away from Governor's Academy, 10-8, to improve its record to 14-1 and clinched second-place in the Independent School League. This marks the seventh straight year that Brooks has finished first or second. Katie Herter and Christie Donovan both had a hat trick.

Limoli, Washburn come up big
Haverhill defeated Andover 24-26, 25-19, 25-17, 15-25, 15-9 to end its best regular season since 2001. Leading the Hillies (14-4) was Freddie Alves (20 kills, 5 blocks), Brett Pettis (12 kills, 2 blocks), Chris Powers (16 digs, 2 aces) and Justin Limoli (45 assists, 2 blocks). For Andover (11-9), Matt Washburn (16 kills), Jerry Hinds (8 kills) and Mike Emmons (35 assists) played well.

St. John's Prep downed Central Catholic in its final game of the regular season 25-20, 16-25, 26-24, 22-25, 15-9. Rory Blinn had 15 kills and Tommy Gomes had a career high 34 assists for the Raiders (11-7). Luke Frick of North Andover powered the Prep with 17 kills.
