The Final Score

Andover advances

Depsite being pushed to the limit by Haverhill, Andover came away with a 3-2 victory in yesterday's Division 1 North first round. Maggie Carter (third singles) and the first doubles team of Rachel Trotta and Kirsten Arvidson registered perfect 6-0, 6-0 victories. Arvidson filled in admirably for Satin Zarkar, who is likely lost for the postseason with rotator cuff damage. Haverhill's Meghan Cokely and Lindsey Boland gritted out a pair of three-game victories to help keep the Hillies alive.

The Warriors face the winner of today's 3:30 p.m. match between Acton-Boxboro and Cambridge Rindge and Latin tomorrow.

Astros soar through semis

Pinkerton boys tennis easily dispatched Concord 6-3 in the Class L semifinals. Mark Mangini and Sam Eaton locked down the first and second singles spots with a pair of 8-5 victories and then teamed up to take first doubles, 8-6. Dan Kish and Mike Soltys were also double winners for the Astros, which take on Exeter in the finals tomorrow.
