Who would have thought two of "The Best Damn Sports Show's" all-time top-50 catches would be by alums of prestigious Dartmouth College, hardly a sports factory. But No. 31 was wide receiver Andrew Hall's miracle one-handed grab in 2004 vs. Harvard and No. 29 was catcher Brad Ausmus' diving grab of a foul ball in treacherous winds against the Yankees.
Hart 2 Hart
Fifteen sibling combinations have been named Eagle-Tribune MVPs, but only one parent-child combination. Britt Hart was softball MVP for North Andover last spring. Her father, Randy, a quarterback at Lawrence High, was the MVP of the first Eagle-Tribune All-Star football team in 1970.
Milbury disses Tiger
When Mike Milbury disses somebody named Tiger, you might think it would by ex-NHL tough guy Dave "Tiger" Williams. Those two went at it more than once. But a few weeks ago, the outspoken Bruins announcer landed an overhand right on Tiger Woods. When apprised Woods scoffed at the popularity of hockey, Milbury shot back, "I'm going to change the name now. It's going to be Tiger Wuss. Here's a guy that took about three months to get over a simple arthroscopic surgery."
Milbury looks a tad foolish now after Woods revealed he played with a ruptured ACL.
In enemy territory
Reason No. 8,329 athletes hate sportswriters. Alex Dilbeck, 14, of Huntington Beach, Calif., painted his body green with the huge message "KG #1" in honor of his hero, Kevin Garnett. Dilbeck's father is Los Angeles Daily News sports columnist Steve Dilbeck.
Rivaling the 'other' Red Sox
Salem's Terry Doyle was one of 19 players from the 2007 Cape Cod League champion Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to be chosen this month in the Major League Baseball Draft.
Among the 19 were Florida State catcher Buster Posey (No. 5 overall) by San Francisco, Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham (No. 8 overall) by the White Sox and Stanford catcher Jason Castro (No. 10 overall) by Houston.
