Hoops for Hope: Brennan paces Pentucket

Senior-to-be Mike Brennan notched a game-high 19 points as Pentucket edged Timberlane 57-51 in Hoops for Hope summer league action last night. The Owls were paced by Terry Matatall, who tallied a team-best 17 points.

Gilbert is top qualifier

Several locals qualified for the next round at the Massachusetts Junior Qualifying, held at Oak Hills Country Club in Billerica. The golfers are looking to qualify for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships.

In the boys junior division, David Gilbert of Indian Ridge shot an even-par 69 to earn top honors. Nick Maccario of Haverhill was third with a 71, Kyle Doherty tied for 10th with a 75. Dan Daley was second alternate with a 78.

In the pre-junior division, Andover's Stephen Murphy shot an 85 to tie for seventh.

North Andover's Craig Farley qualified as an alternate in the Juniors with an 83 on the par-70 course at Oak Hill.

The qualifiers will play next at Framingham Country Club from July 27-29.
