CHRISTOPHER McCONNELL, Andover, Jr., 100

Won EMass Division 1 title (10.98). Placed second at All-States (10.87) and third at New Englands (10.96). Finished 16th at Nike Outdoor Nationals (10.92). Holds our area record (10.78 last year). Anchored 4x100 team that ran a 42.93 (second all-time in area) to win EMass D1 crown. Eagle-Tribune All-Star receiver in football. Currently starring for Andover Legion baseball team.

FRANCESCO CUESTA, Lawrence, Jr., 200

Set area record (21.74) — eclipsing his brother Enrique's mark of 21.97 — while finishing second to Tewksbury's Evan White at All-States. EMass Division 1 champ (22.19) and runner-up at New Englands (21.90), Andover Boosters (22.19) and MVCs (22.16). Ran second leg of All-Scholastic 4x100 relay, which set area record. Played volleyball last spring! Scored 16 goals for soccer team last fall.

STEVE CARROLL, Londonderry, Sr., 400

Repeat Eagle-Tribune All-Star blew away the field at Class Ls with a time of 48.27, the second best in our all-time rankings. Also anchored the Lancers' victorious 4x400 relay team. Coach Ryan O'Connor calls him a "dominant and impressive" athlete. Also finished second in the 200 at Class Ls (22.36), seventh all-time in the region. Three-year starter in soccer. Will attend University of Maryland.

ADDERLY GONZALEZ, Lawrence, Sr., 800

Finished fourth at All-States in 1:55.10, sixth best in our all-time rankings. Won EMass Division 1 championship (1:55.63), eclipsing Jim Kent's 38-year-old hand-timed school record (1:55.6). Andover Boosters champ (1:57.02). Played baseball last spring! Led cross country team to four wins last fall after it hadn't won a single meet in the eight previous seasons. Will likely run track at UMass Lowell.

JARED REDDY, Methuen, Jr., mile

MVC champ (4:25.07) and Ottaviani Invitational champ (4:28.74). Recently ran a 4:01.43, 1,500 at New Balance Boston series meet. That translates to a 4:20.67 mile, the best in the area this spring. Ran a 4:24 split in the 1,600 to lead the Rangers to a second-place finish in the distance medley at the EMass Division 1 relays (10:45.01). Division 1 runner-up in the 2-mile (9:32.80). Also ran a 9:28.66 2-mile.

ALEX KRAMER, North Andover, Sr., 2-mile

Set an EMass Division 2 meet record (9:17.5). Runner-up (9:17.11) at All-States. Placed sixth in Nike Outdoor Nationals' Emerging Elite Division (9:32.73). Three-season CAL track MVP. Placed seventh in the mile (4:22.83) at Hartford Public Invitational and ran a 4:21.50 to win New Englands indoors. Six-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star. Moynihan Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Will run at Brandeis.

ERIK SWAHN, North Andover, Sr., 110 High hurdles

Captain and school record holder finished second at both the EMass Division 2 meet (15.10, ranking him No. 2 in area this spring) and CALs (15.1). Placed third at Andover Boosters (15.53) and 12th at All-States (15.51). Also set a school record in the new 400 hurdles (59.5). Helped lead Scarlet Knights to 10-0 dual-meet record and a second-place finish at EMass Division 2 meet. Will attend Penn State.

JAMES LAWLOR, North Reading, Jr., 400 Intermediate hurdles

Finished second at both CALs (59.4) and EMass Division 4 meet (area-leading 58.41). Ran third leg of 4x400 relay team that finished second at CALs and fifth at Division 4. Also ran the 800. Placed seventh in the league this winter in the 600 meters (1:29.20). Scored five goals for the soccer team last fall.

FRANCIS SCHAUFENBIL, Central Catholic, Jr., Javelin

Joined track after cut from baseball this spring. Had an area-leading 179-11 throw in his first season of track. Placed second at MVCs (158-9) and fourth at EMass Division 2 meet (160-6) — teammate Jose Pena finished second (164-0). Andover Boosters champ (169-10). Finished fifth at Ottaviani Invitational (152-4). Helped lead Raiders to MVC dual-meet crown and EMass Division 2 title. Still plays Senior Babe Ruth baseball.

BOBBY VARDARO, Phillips Academy, Jr., Discus

The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder from North Reading recorded the best throw in the region this spring (139-5). Also strong in the shot put, finished third at the NEPSTA Division 1 meet with a throw of 50-10. Threw 52-5 this spring, good for third on our leaderboard. The Eagle-Tribune All-Star lineman recently accepted a scholarship to play football at BC. His sister Danielle was a two-sport Eagle-Tribune All-Star.

CAM LYLE, Timberlane, Sr., Shot put

Repeat Eagle-Tribune All-Star, topped our leaderboard with a toss of 54-2 1/2 to win the Ottaviani Invitational. That ranks him 23rd all-time in the area. Nashua North Invitational champ (52-11). Placed fifth at Class Ls (47-1 1/2) and sixth at Meet of Champions (50-5 3/4). Took third at Seacoast Invitational (49-1). Finished third at Class L indoor meet (49-9 3/4). Started at guard for the football team..

ALEX GRIMBLE, North Andover, Sr., High jump

Jumped 6-4 or better at six meets this spring. Finished sixth at All-States (6-5) and second at EMass Division 2 meet (6-4). Co-CAL champ (6-4) with teammate Andrew Bernardin. Combined to place second at Division 2 relays in high jump and triple jump. Has won four CAL high jump titles (two indoor, two outdoor). Eagle-Tribune All-Star indoors, too. Will attend Temple University.

JOSH ADAMS, Methuen, Sr., Long jump

Exploded for a 22-11 — sixth best in our all-time rankings — to finish second at All-States. Placed fourth at EMass Division 1 meet (21-10 1/2) and second at Andover Boosters (21-1 1/4). MVC runner-up (21-7 1/4). Placed 16th at New Englands (20-2 1/2). Jumped 22-7 last spring. Also a talented sprinter. Finished fifth in the MVC in the 100 (11.25) and sixth in the 400 (52.71) at Andover Boosters...

ARMANDO BUCCIARELLI, Central Catholic, Jr., Triple jump

EMass Division 2 champ (44-1) and runner-up at MVCs (42-10). Came in eighth at All-States (44-0 1/2). Extremely versatile. Division 2 runner-up in the pole vault (12-0). Also MVC champ in the high jump (6-3) and runner (6-3) at Andover Boosters. Cleared 6-4 1/2 this winter.. Division 2 indoor runner-up (6-3) to North Andover's Alex Grimble. Two-year letterman in soccer. Windham resident.

MIKE MARSHALL, Salem, Sr., Decathlon

Gatorade N.H. boys track MVP. A natural. Won N.H. decathlon with 5,902 points. It was his first ever decathlon. Won 110 hurdles at Class Ls (14.82) and Meet of Champions (14.85). Ran a 14.77, tied for ninth all-time in area. Won high jump (6-2) and long jump (21-4) at Meet of Champions. Took second at Class Ls in both long jump (21-0 3/4) and high jump (6-2). Eagle-Tribune MVP last spring. Will compete at UNH.

LAWRENCE, 4x100

Ramses Rafael, Francesco Cuesta, Kevin Valerio, Francis Nova

All-Scholastic quartet notched an impressive victory at All-States (43.05), upsetting favored Andover. Set an area record (42.73) while finishing third at New Englands. MVC champs (43.60). Runner-up at EMass Division 1 meet (43.10), with Remie Acosta stepping in for the injured Rafael. Nova finished second in the 100 at the Division 1 meet (10.99) and third at All-States (11.10). The former area 4x100 record-setters were from Lawrence (42.83, 2004) and included Cuesta's and Rafael's brothers.

ANDOVER, 4x400

Mark Vetere, Connor O'Neill, Brendan Crawford, Rob Martin

A force all spring. All-Scholastic. The quartet's victory at All-States (3:22.19) — which helped clinch the championship for Andover — was the fourth best in our all-time rankings. Division 1 (3:22.63), MVC (3:25.13) and EMass Division 1 Relay (3:25.64) champs. Martin, who placed sixth in the 400 at Division 1 meet (50.72), will run track at Johns Hopkins.

MARK VETERE, Andover Junior, Pole Vault

Former gymnast. Tore through all the major competitions in Massachusetts, winning titles at All-States (14-6), EMass Division 1 (14-6) and the Merrimack Valley Conference meets (14-7). At Nike Outdoor Nationals, he finished 12th, clearing 14-9, to break his own school record. Only Pinkerton's Jake Radzevich, who went on to star at UConn, has gone higher. He set an area and New England record in 2002, clearing 15-8. Ran lead leg of school-record setting 4x400 relay team (3:22.19, 3rd all-time in region) and also the second leg of school-record setting 4x100 team (42.93, 3rd all-time in region). EMass Athlete of the Year in track. Gatorade Mass. Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Twin brother is also a talented trackster.
