Not a fan in sight
On June 14, the Iowa Cubs defeated the Nashville Sounds in a game in which the attendance was zero. With the city of Des Moines under a voluntary evacuation order due to flooding, the I-Cubs decided not to allow any fans into the stadium. After the game, pitcher Sean Marshall compared the experience to playing at Wrigley Field: "Instead of 42,000 screaming fans, we had eight screaming staff members, minus the screaming," he said.
Everyone's a critic
Ken Griffey Jr. wasn't in Monday's lineup and he saw Darren Baker, the 9-year-old son of Reds' manager Dusty, in the clubhouse. Griffey asked why he wasn't in the lineup.
"Because you can't hit lefthanders," said Darren. "And you're old."
Griffey asked, "How old am I?"
"Fifty."

Vintage Pistol Pete
Last week we gave you the best of Bobby Orr. The hoop fans have spoken, they want to see a basketball magician.
Pistol Pete Maravich's 68-point game against the Knicks should do the trick. His shot to get his 66th point, on the play starting at
around 3:45 is just unbelievable.
