Lowell's Huntzinger bests Batavia

Six scoreless innings from Brock Huntzinger allowed Lowell to snap a two-game losing streak by toppling host Batavia, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game series.

Huntzinger continued his torrid start for the Spinners (11-11), striking out six and walking none while scattering five hits. In 26 innings over five starts, the right-hander has allowed just two earned runs while boasting a 22-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Mitch Dening stretched his hitting streak to seven games with a home run to lead off the game followed by an RBI triple from Rafael Cabreja that plated Ryan Dent (double). Ronald Bermudez's sixth-inning RBI infield single and Dent bases-loaded walk locked down the victory.

Stephen Fife (two innings, one run) and Seth Garrison tossed the final three innings to preserve the win.

Yeiper Castillo (0-1) will take the ball tonight at 7:05 p.m.

Sea Dogs 11, Fisher Cats 1

An hour-long rain delay couldn't wash away the Portland offense in an 11-1 romp.

The Sea Dogs (50-39) scorched visiting New Hampshire (34-57) for three runs in the third inning, four more in the fourth and three in the fifth. Iggy Suarez had three hits and three RBIs for Portland and Jeff Corsaletti extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a two-run single.

Eric Nielsen poked a run-scoring single in the third inning to give New Hampshire an early lead. Andrew Pinckney ripped three hits including a pair of doubles while Scott Campbell's 2-for-4 effort raised his Eastern League-best average to .337.

Robert Ray worked 31/3 innings, surrendering six earned runs to suffer his third straight loss, falling to 3-3. Julio Pinto and Jean Machi relieved in the loss.

Lefty Brett Cecil will take the rubber tonight as New Hampshire and Portland wrap up the three-game set at 7 p.m.

Pride, Tornadoes rained out

Nashua and Worcester got through three innings of play before rain put the breaks on the Can-Am League contest with the squads tied 2-2.

The teams will now play doubleheaders tonight and tomorrow in Worcester to wrap up the first half of the season as Hideki Nagasaka (5-1) and Jason Paul (0-1) draw the mound duties tonight for the Pride. Both twin-bills start at 6:05 p.m.
