Wrestling
Haverhill's Isaiah Williams continued his successful summer by rolling to the 160-pound scholastic title at the Bay State Games over the weekend. Williams, who won his weight at the NHSCA nationals in Maryland last month and wrestles out of Smitty's Barn in Danville,N.H., beat Tyngsboro's Matt Donohoe in the finals.
Another Haverhill resident and member of Smitty's Barn, Central Catholic's Jack DiBurro, finished second at 152, losing to Burlington's Kevin Barrucci in the championship match.
Also, North Reading's Mike O'Boyle, who wrestles at Brooks School, captured the 119-pound scholastic crown and North Reading's Ryan O'Boyle was fourth at 103, one spot ahead of Lawrence's Jorge Aquino.
Phillips Academy's Shaun Stuer of Chelmsford was first at 189 and Haverhill's Terrance Jean-Jacques was third at heavyweight, one spot ahead of Lawrence's Pedro Cruz. Joe Varela of Lawrence was third at 215 and St. John's Prep's Ryan Harding of North Andover was sixth at 152,
In the open division, former St. John's Prep star Ryan Malo of Georgetown was first at 197 and Topsfield's Kyle Ayer was second at 225. North Andover's Larry Coughlin was second at 162.
Basketball
Georgetown to face Andover
Georgetown tuned up for tomorrow's semifinals in the Northern Essex Community College Summer League girls varsity division with an easy 36-17 win over Whittier. Haley Gisonno had 16 points for the Royals (7-2), which will face Andover (8-1) at 6 p.m. Unbeaten Tewksbury will face Triton in the other semifinal, with the finals set for next Monday at 6 p.m.
Christina Medley scored six for Whittier.
Andover, meanwhile whipped Amesbury 43-25 behind incoming freshman Nicole Boudreau's 23 points.

In other games, Methuen defeated Newburyport 54-20, Pentucket clipped Central Catholic 37-30 and North Andover edged Lynn English 46-41.
Baseball
Lawrence Legion blasts Haverhill
Lawrence Legion Post 15 defeated Haverhill Post 4 by an 11-0 score. Ross Sarmento had a double and home run for three RBIs to pace the attack, Roberto Valenti had two hits including a bases-loaded triple while Zak Adamopoulos and Chris Briganti both added two hits apiece. Adamopoulos went five innings for the win, allowing just two hits, to pick up the win. Lawrence improved to 9-5 in Legion play, 11-5 overall.

The Haverhill Black Diamonds defeated the Lowell Gray 11-2 in Merrimack Valley Senior Babe Ruth League action. Ryan Magoon went five innings for the win, striking out eight, and Alex Persichetti pitched well in relief. Frank Xia, Chris Panaro and Ryan Queenan led the offense.

McLeod paces Northeast
Haverhill's Ryan McLeod enjoyed a superb weekend for the Northeast squad in the Bay State Games boys scholastic division. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Coastal and then the only goal, on a penalty kick, in a 1-0 win over Metro. Also playing well were goalies Daniel Klisiewicz of North Andover and Evan Weagle of Georgetown.
