Riptide win streak snapped in shutout

LOWELL — A 20-minute rain delay only made Akron pitcher Angela Tincher stronger, leading to a 3-0 victory over New England last night.

The setback ended a five-game winning streak that had moved the Riptide (15-16) to fourth place in the league.

Although she held New England scoreless through five innings, Tincher was touched for three hits and allowed four walks. But after the brief weather break, the Racer hurler rang up five strikeouts to close out the victory with authority.

Riptide pitcher Eileen Carney (six hits) received little support, seeing a pair of errors and a passed ball lead to three unearned runs while the offense had two runners caught stealing and another picked off.

Jackie Pasquerella, Lyndsey Angus and Gina Carbonatto each had a single in the losing effort.

New England closes out its series with Akron (13-14) tonight at 7:05 p.m.
