Spinners' magic number now 2

FISHKILL, N.Y. — Will Middlebrooks belted an RBI triple and Deshaun Brooks had an RBI single, but Lowell sputtered offensively against the Hudson Valley Renegades and fell 6-2. Casey Kelly also hit a double for Lowell.

Division rival Oneonta, meanwhile, fell to Brooklyn 6-0, dropping the Spinners' magic number to clinch the Stedler Division title to 2.

Starter Bryan Price took the loss for Lowell, coughing up four earned runs on five hits and two walks through four innings. He also struck out two. Jorge Rodriguez and Dennis Neuman each gave up one run over two innings in relief of Price.

Hudson Valley starter Nick Barnese was sharp, pitching six innings of four-hit ball. He walked none and struck out seven.

Nashua 8, Atlantic City 2

NASHUA, N.H. — Matt O'Brien worked eight innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits and three walks to pace the Nashua Pride to an 8-2 win over the Atlantic City Surf. O'Brien also struck out five.

Adam Piechowski struck out the side in mop-up duty.

Vinny Pennell led the Pride attack, going 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs. Ervin Alcantara was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, and Edgar Clemente was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Binghamton 5, New Hampshire 0

MANCHESTER, N.H. — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats managed just four hits and wasted a strong effort from starter Marty McLeary in a 5-0 loss to Binghamton. New Hampshire made four errors in the loss.

McLeary gave up two runs, one earned, over 61âÑ3 innings and suffered the loss. He worked around seven hits and three walks while striking out three.

Jacob Butler was the only strong offensive contributor for New Hampshire, going 2 for 2 with a walk.
