Knights' Kramer, Kasper in mid-season form

Cross Country

Alex Kramer, Darryl Varney, Brian Jalbert, Max O'Brien and Rob Hennessy took the first five spots, all within four seconds of each other, as North Andover downed Wilmington 15-46.

Kirsten Kasper ran away and hid and Karissa Mako turned in a fine effort in second place as the Scarlet Knight girls tripped the Wildcats 20-36.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Pentucket fell to Lynnfield and Manchester. Jason Cox finished fourth and Matt Pearsall eighth for the Sachems. On the girls' side, the Sachems rolled to a pair of 15-50 victories. Alana Poretta and April O'Brien went 1-2 to lead the way.

Boys soccer

Lawrence surprises Tewksbury in tie

Tewksbury and Lawrence finished in a 1-1 tie. Lawrence's Francesco Cuesta scored the team's lone goal with Osman Perez getting the assist. Lawrence netminder Edwin Gutierrez finished with 10 saves.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Central Catholic beat Chelmsford 4-1. Leading the way for Central was sophomore Josh Voto, who scored two goals and an assist. Rounding out the Central scoring were Dan Caruso and Alex Parisi. Central assists went to Voto, Parisi and Andrew Butterworth (2). Jack McCarthy finished with 6 saves for the winners.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Andrew Coolidge scored one goal and assisted on another as Georgetown bested Amesbury 3-0. Mike Smith and Jim Savelyeve each added a goal for the Royals.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Exeter downed Timberlane 3-1. Josh Patten scored for the Owls. Brian Sullivan played well in net but the rugged junior went down with what was believed to be a broken nose late in the game.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Despite a goal from Alex Golan, Andover fell to Dracut 2-1. Josh Torres and Matt Liedes each had an assist for the Golden Warriors.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

North Reading and Austin Prep finished in a 2-2 tie. North Reading's Dave Voller scored both of his team's goals with Matt Howard and Steven Dixon each getting an assist.

Girls Soccer

Evangelista, O'Connor power Raiders

Central Catholic doubled up on Haverhill 4-2. Central goals were scored by Ashley Evangelista (2), Nicolette Pelrine and Rachel Bourque. Central assists went to Gia O'Connor (2), Jill Lane and Kelley Mikus. Haverhill goals were scored by Molly Fitzgerald and Casey Anderson.

Central Catholic beat Haverhill 6-0 in JV action.

Andover and Sandwich finished in a scoreless tie. Kayla Walsh stopped five Sandwich shots.

Exeter won 1-0 with Kelly Spencer scoring the game's lone goal. Timberlane goalkeepers Kelsey Peabody and Jess Barrett combined for 18 saves.

Georgetown pounded Amesbury 7-0. The Royals' top performers were Nicole DiMaio (3 goals) and Pauline Reilly (18 saves).

Boys Volleyball

Mill, Owls roll

Timberlane swept Oyster River 25-7, 25-14, 25-17. Alex Mill (9 kills, 14 points), Tim Anderson (9 kills) and Conor Dube (26 assists) led the Owls.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Chris Barnes (25 assists), Joe Gallant (11 kills) and Sean Stewart (8 service points) lifted Salem to a 25-3, 25-12, 25-13 win over Souhegan.

Girls Volleyball

Guselli in a giving mood

Methuen pasted Medford 25-11, 25-14, 25-8 as Rebecca Guselli (16 assists), Rashidat Agboola (9 kills, 7 blocks) and Courtney Murach (8 kills, 5 aces) shined for the Rangers.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Whittier beat North Shore 25-15, 25-13, 25-13. Danielle Ryan had 11 aces and Kendra Hobbs added 5 aces and 5 assists.

ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢ÔÇ¢

Fellowship Christian Valley topped Mystic Valley 25-13, 25-18, 25-12. Melissa Farinha finished with 13 service points and six aces and Brittney Marvin contributed 10 service points.

Paolo Gutierrez had 15 kills, Angie Gonzalez notched 20 assists and Rosa Javier did a little bit of everything as Greater Lawrence downed PMA 25-22, 26-28, 25-14 and 25-18.

Field Hockey

Twiss, Pythons rally

Becca Twiss had two goals and Erin Giannino also tallied as rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down Somersworth 3-2.

Golf

Burke, Warriors win big

Sean Burke shot a 34 to win his match 3 and 2 and lead Andover to a season-opening 16-4 victory over Dracut. Dave Gilbert won 4 and 3 and Adam Rosenzweig earned a 2-up victory, both with 37s, for the Golden Warriors.

Lowell blitzed Lawrence 8-0. Lawrence's Tyler Santacroce shot a 3-over 34.

North Andover lost a heartbreaker to Lynnfield 156-154. John Boyle (24), Nick Depace (25), Dan Daley (26), Pat Boyle (26), Scott Whelan (26) and Colin Foley (27) played well for the Scarlet Knights.

St. John's trounced Danvers, 226-247, behind James Miller of Andover (38), Nick Maccario of Bradford (38), Nick Pandelena of Atkinson (39) and John Tassinari (42).

Announcements

Methuen hosting field hockey clinic

There will be a free field hockey clinic for Methuen girls grades 4-8 starting this Saturday, Sept. 6. The clinic will run on Saturdays from 9-10:30 and is expected to last through mid-October.

Those interested should meet at the Methuen High School bus loop field.

The Andover Stars Special Olympics team is looking for athletes from Greater Lawrence. First practice takes place Sunday at 11 a.m. at Bancroft Elementary School in Andover.
