NECC rebounds
The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team bounced back strong from an opening-season loss in the New Hampshire Tech Tournament.
Just one day after losing to the host school, the Knights ripped Eastern Maine 111-69. Anthony Siri led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds while Methuen's Matt Richardson and Edwin Gonzalez chipped in with 17 and 16 points respectively. Sted Bourdeau had 10 points, 11 assists and ive steals.
Netting the clincher
Andover's boys soccer team dominated play against Hyde Park's Community Action of Science and Health but it took a second-half goal by Kaelan Crawford to give the Golden Warriors a 2-1 victory in the Division 1 North tournament. Andover will be at Framingham tomorrow.
Andover girls prevail
The Andover girls soccer team defeated Methuen for the second time this year, but this time it was in the Division 1 North tournament, 3-1.
The Golden Warriors, who face Winchester today at Woburn, moved ahead in the first half on goals by Gabby Pattello and Michaela Van Antwerp and added an insurance goal in the second half.
Royals roll into quarters
Freshman Jamie Block had two saves in the first half, shutting out Notre Dame of Tyngsboro, then moved to striker and scored a pair of second-half goals in Georgetown's 6-1 first round Division 3 North victory.
Jessica Shores contributed a four-star score, blasting a shot from the sidelines outside of the 18-yard box and into the open corner of the cage.
Nicoline Holland also scored twice and added an assist for the fifth-seeded Royals, who will host No. 13 Weston tomorrow at 2 p.m in the quarterfinals. Weston upset No. 4 Lynnfield yesterday, a team that Georgetown lost to during the regular season.
Central bows out
Central Catholic's boys soccer team lost in the Division 2 North tournament to Wayland, 1-0, despite a strong performance by the Raiders (7-7-4). Senior midfielders Liam Johnson and Dan Caruso and forward Chris Wilbar all played solid games.
Offense empty
Haverhill managed only two shots on goal and lost to Westford 2-0 in the first round of the Division 1 North boys soccer tournament.
