Jason Kidd Makes Splash With Hamptons’ Home Purchase

- — Maybe it was the NBA title he won in June. Or the new wife he married in September. Or the Dallas condo he placed on the market. Or the NBA lockout that afforded him plenty of free time. Whatever it was, there's no doubt about this:

Perennial All-Star Jason Kidd is having himself one, big year to remember.

Now, to top it all off, Kidd has signed a contract on a sprawling, 2-acre Hamptons' mansion that had been listed for $5.975 million. Not a bad way to celebrate being the oldest point guard in NBA history to win an NBA Finals title.

Kidd, 38, has spent 17 years in the NBA and has one year left in his contract with the Mavericks. With the NBA lockout over and the league set to start play Christmas Day, Kidd can make good on his statements that he'd like to hang around the league for another two years, make it to the ripe, old age of 40 before hanging up his high tops.

But whatever his pro career future is, it's pretty clear that Kidd intends to spend time back in the New York area, where he starred for the New Jersey Nets for six seasons. The house he has signed a deal to purchase sits in the Water Mill real estate market, and was left up for grabs when Jennifer Lopez passed on purchasing it soon after her split from Marc Anthony.

The 6-bedroom, 6-bath custom-built home home on Flying Point is brand new, with a modern interior style and has 5,500 sq ft of finished space above ground, including a regal master and guest suites. An additional 2,300 sq ft lower level includes staff suite and recreational areas.

The place is big enough for Kidd to welcome his children, including three from his first marriage, as well as weekend guests who might like to take advantage of the all-weather tennis court and heated, Gunite pool complete with pool house with fireplace and cabana. The property sits on flat land and is very open, which explains how it can easily accommodate the separate carriage house.
