GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Down by 10 at the break, Merrimack cut the deficit to one (65-64), but Adelphi responded with a late run for an 85-74 win.

Suffering its first loss since Dec. 1, Merrimack (6-7, 3-5 NE-10) saw its road record slip to 0-4 on the year.

The Panthers shot 30 for 51 from the floor and 8 for 12 from long range to improve to 6-8.

Freshman guard Gelvis Solano led all players with 25 points including a brilliant 8 for 12 on 3-pointers.

Mike Clifford (12), Tyler Young (10) and Troy Hammel (10) also cracked double figures for the visitors.

John Calarco scored 24 points and Anthony Libroia added 17 for the Panthers.

Merrimack will host New Haven Saturday at 3 p.m. The women’s game is at 1 p.m.

Poor 2nd half costs Merrimack

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Adelphi outscored Merrimack 38-21 in the second half en route to a 73-60 win.

The Warriors were led by Kelly Schatzlein, who finished with 15 points and six rebounds while Chloe Rothman added 12 points, nine boards and two steals. Ashley Weissmann scored nine points off the bench.

Merrimack dropped to 8-4, 4-4 NE-10 while the hosts improved to 9-3 and 6-2.

Cyclones, Niang lose heartbreaker

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Ben McLemore let a 3-pointer rip from well beyond the arc as the final seconds ticked away.

As soon as it left his hand, McLemore dutifully yelled, ‘’Bank!’’

The shot banked off the glass and went through the net, pulling sixth-ranked Kansas into a tie with Iowa State with a single second left in regulation. The Jayhawks scored the first nine points in OT to wrap up a stunning 97-89 victory.

Freshman Georges Niang of Methuen had 13 points and seven rebounds for Iowa State (10-4, 0-1).

Anderson powers BC

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Sophomore Ryan Anderson led three Boston College scorers in double figures with 26 points as the Eagles defeated Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum, 86-75, Wednesday night.

Olivier Hanlan was all over the court. He had 17 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.
