Star of the Game: Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte went 6.2 innings, allowing three runs, but none earned, on six hits and one walk while striking out five. He improved to 8-9.

Streak Broken: Red Sox lefty Felix Doubront’s streak of 16 straight starts of three earned runs or fewer is finished. He gave up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits and two walks over 4.0 innings.

A-Rod Reception: Red Sox fans booed Alex Rodriguez loudly and held “A-Roid” and “A-Fraud” signs but the third baseman gave it right back, going 2 for 4 with a walk and run.

Three Straight Losses: The Red Sox have dropped three straight and are the only team in baseball this season that has not endured a losing streak of four or more games. That could change today.

Game 2: The Red Sox and Yankees meet again today in the second game of the three-game set at 4:05 p.m. New York RHP Hiroki Kuroda (11-7, 2.33) goes against Red Sox RHP John Lackey (7-10, 3.32).
