The Andover Legion stayed perfect (8-0) after a convincing 7-0 win over Lynn Gautreau. Shawn Carlson allowed just one hit over six inning while striking out nine.
John Hennessey led the Post 8 attack with three hits and four RBIs while Andrew Ruiz and Mike Yastrzemski each had a pair of hits. Robin Lowe struck out two as he picked up the save with a scoreless seventh. Defensively Jake Ponte and Ruiz each played well.
Andover plays at Gloucester tonight (6 p.m.).
Haverhill earns first win, falls in second game
Haverhill Post 4 split a doubleheader, edging Swampscott 2-1 and losing to Marblehead, 4-1.
In the first game, Whittier's Dillon Ryan outdueled Hunter Gordon in scattering seven hits while striking out five to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Swampscott ace in the state playoffs, last month. Taylor Robinson's fourth inning solo home run was the game's only run.
In game two, Chad Kimball's first inning fielders choice to drive in Pat Noone was Haverhill's only tally in game two as Post 4 could only muster three hits. Kimball tossed two innings of shut relief.
Haverhill (1-3) hosts Lawrence at Haverhill Stadium tonight at 6pm.
Lawrence Babe Ruth advances in tourney
The Lawrence All-Stars defeated the Lowell American All-Stars, 10-0, in a game called after five innings.
Michael Donnolly struck out 10 in five innings to earn the win. Fabio Nunez had three hits to lead Lawrence while Franklin Martinez, Ricardo Metos and Joan Varsguez each had a pair of hits.
Lawrence advances to meet Burlington in a battle of the only undefeated teams in the District 2 double-elimination tourney. The two teams will meet tonight in Burlington, at 5:30 p.m.
Salem falls short to Nashua
Stephen Day went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs but it wasn't enough for the Salem Cardinals who dropped its senior Babe Ruth game with Nashua, 4-3. Zachary Meisner had an RBI single in the loss.
