The Final Score

Rachael Denning’s goal off a corner with 6:33 left to play lifted No. 6 Salem field hockey to a 1-0 upset over third-seeded Timberlane in the Division 1 quarterfinals.

Brianna Rastello made 11 saves for Salem, which will play No. 2 seed Winnacunnet on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Bill Ball Stadium in the semifinals.

“She played outstanding,” Timberlane coach Mim Ryan said about Rastello. “My kids played hard. We just didn’t get the bounces. It wasn’t for a lack of effort.”

Kaylie DeCosmo certainly has had a strong sophomore season. She now is second on her team in scoring after an impressive two-goal game to lift top-seeded Pinkerton 4-0 over No. 8 seed Bishop Guertin in the Division 1 field hockey quarterfinals.

Julie Saltamartini, the team’s leading scorer, had a goal and two assists.

The Astros advanced to play No. 5 Exeter at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bill Ball Stadium in the semifinals.

Despite a goal from Elisabeth Caron and a eight-save effort from Samantha Hall, seventh-seeded Londonderry field hockey lost 2-1 to No. 2 seed Winnacunnet in the Division 1 quarterfinals.
