Sports in a minute: Bentley offers Courtney Walsh

Central Catholic junior guard Courtney Walsh received a basketball scholarship offer from Bentley. Previously she had been offered by Stonehill.

Walsh averaged 9.8 points per game last season for the Division 1 state champs. The Eagle-Tribune All-Star scored 19 points, including two huge free throws with 7.8 seconds left, in the state semifinal win over Braintree at TD Garden.

She has won a state title in soccer, too.

Methuen and Central Catholic boys volleyball square off today for the second time this year at 6 p.m. at Central.

Methuen won the first match this year with a tight 3-2 victory. In that win, Charlie Roaf recorded 15 kills and 15 service points for the Rangers while Tim Galloway-Burke had 16 blocks. Central was led by Jacob Francis’ 23 assists.

Central Catholic graduate Nick Parent and Pelham grad Alec Paradis — both freshmen — had strong lacrosse seasons for Wentworth.

Parent was the team’s fourth leading scorer (26 goals, 7 assists) and Paradis the seventh leading scorer (11 goals, 9 assists).

The two helped lead Wentworth to a berth in the ECAC Division III championship game where the Leopards lost 12-10 to the University of New England.

Remember left-hander Lenny DiNardo, who pitched for the Red Sox from 2004-06?

Well, he threw a no-hitter for the independent Lancaster Barnstormers, facing just 28 Long Island Ducks.

“I felt the cutter had a lot of bite and I was able to throw the curveball with some aggressiveness, with some speed on it,” said DiNardo, according to lancasteronline.com. “If the ball’s down, they’re going to beat it into the ground.”
