WORCESTER — Assumption junior center Jimmy Zenevitch of Methuen had a career game as the Greyhounds beat Merrimack 68-63.
Zenevitch erupted for 23 of his career-high 34 points in the second half. His lay-up with 23 seconds left gave the hosts the lead for good. The ex-Central Catholic great also had 10 rebounds and four assists and shot 13 of 20 from the floor.
In his previous outing, Zenevitch scored 25 points. He’s now averaging 14.8 points a game.
J.T. Strickland led Merrimack with 19 points while Anthony Barry (14), Gelvis Solano (10) and Troy Hammel (10) also hit double figures.
Merrimack, which has lost five straight, dropped to 8-15 while Assumption improved to 7-16.
Assumption closed the first half with a 17-1 run en route to a 67-56 win over Merrimack in women’s action.
Aria Johnson scored 12 points and Chloe Rothman 10 for the Warriors (11-12, 7-11 NE-10). Caitlin Ackerman scored a game-high 14 points for Assumption (14-9, 10-8 NE-10).
Both Merrimack squads will be back in action Wednesday when they host St. Anselm.
Junior Carson Desrosiers of Windham was 4 for 4 from the floor and 4 for 4 from the line. He finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks as Providence pasted DePaul 84-61.
Sophomore Georges Niang of Methuen scored a team-high 17 points with four assist to lead Iowa State in a 70-64 win over Texas Tech. Niang has hit double-figures in 10 straight games.
Freshman Noah Vonleh of Haverhill scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds but slumping Indiana was no match for Purdue 82-64.
Rashidat Agboola of Methuen had 19 points and BU beat Loyola of Maryland 74-55.
