Nelson said the trip from the airport to the hotel is normally about 35 minutes. On this morning, it took less than 20 minutes because hardly any cars were on the road.
He got the reason why as he brought his bags into the hotel. Everyone was watching the Canada-USA Olympic hockey semifinal.
“Everyone was watching in lounge,” recalled Nelson. “After the win, people who were in the mall behind our hotel poured out into street to celebrate. It was a wild scene.”
Sager tourney at Renaissance
One of the better charity golf tournaments is back for a fourth year on Aug. 11 at Renaissance Golf Club in Haverhill.
The Tom Sager Golf Classic donates proceeds to help support the Merrimack Valley YMCA’s Healthy Kids Initiative which provides access to physical activity and recreation to deserving youth in the Merrimack Valley.
It also funds the “Tom Sager Golf Academy,” established during the summer of 2011 to honor Sager’s passion for the game of golf and the values it delivers by providing the opportunities for youth to share in that passion. Kids from the YMCA get to partake in weekly clinics at the beautiful Haverhill course.

O’Boyle honored at McDaniel
Former Central Catholic wrestling star Ryan O’Boyle, of North Reading, has not wasted much time making his presence felt as a college athlete at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. The sophomore has been named the Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Year.
O’Boyle won the individual title at 133 at the CC championship Saturday. At the championship, he went 3-0 with three pins for his first crown after a runner-up finish as a freshman.
O’Boyle enters Sunday’s NCAA Div. III East Regional with an overall record of 25-1 with 15 pins.
By virtue of his championship, he was also named to the first-team all-conference.
