Lawrence pros fight in Derry tonight

Two of Lawrence’s top pro fight prospects, unbeatens Alexis Santos and Agustine Mauras, will take to the ring at the SportsZone in Derry, N.H., as a seven-fight pro card is planned for tonight.

“We have to get both of these guys back in the ring,” said trainer Sean Farley. “They’ve been away too long.”

The heavyweight Santos, now 6-0, will tangle with Boston policeman Tyronne Smith.

Santos was supposed to hit the ring last month against Worcester pro Josh Harris, but the Harris camp walked away on a contract tiff.

“The fight was off the minute Alexis took his shirt at the weigh-in,” said Farley, noting that he believed fear of Santos played a factor.

“That hurt us a lot. We sold 90-something tickets for that fight, enough for both of those guys to get paid and the promoters to get their chunk. But when the fight didn’t go off, it hurt our credibility to a lot of people.”

Tonight’s battle is the first step back.

Mauras, a 3-0-1 lightweight, will tangle with Attleboro’s Theo Desjardin, a veteran of the mixed martial arts who is crossing over into the ring.

Tickets are available at the SportsZone for $25, $35 and $50.
