Final Score: Andover stuns No. 1 Arlington Catholic

Andover stunned Arlington Catholic, the top-ranked team in the ESPNBoston statewide poll, 2-1. With the score deadlocked at 1-1, Veronica Alois’ unassisted goal in the third period won it for the Golden Warriors (4-1). Brianna Deloury scored in the first period. Meagan Johnson (22 saves) stymied the potent Cougar attack.

AC (3-1) won the Division 1 state title in 2012 and was runner-up last winter.

Busy keeper

Andover defensemen Jack Wilkie and Andrew Soucy made the all-tourney team. They and goalie Pat Schena (35 saves) starred in a 4-0 loss yesterday to powerhouse Arlington Catholic.

Zach Attack

Senior Zach Conway, who hadn’t played the last two seasons, scored a career-high 21 points including four first-half 3-pointers to power Pelham to a 61-40 win over Acton-Boxboro. Jake Vaiknoras and Ryan Cloutier added 11 each.

Hogan’s Heroes

Pentucket managed to cut a 17-point lead down to two in the final minute, but Derek Hogan went 4 for 4 from the charity stripe in the final 12 seconds to seal the victory for North Reading. Colby Maiola led the way for the Hornets with a season-high 18 points


Sachem Power

Kelsi McNamara netted a season-high 22 points and McKenna Kilian had eight points and 10 rebounds as Pentucket downed North Reading 52-38.

On the Ball

Cody Ball made three of Londonderry’s nine 3-pointers and tallied 21 points as the Lancers held off Westford 51-46. Londonderry did a nice job spreading the ball around, with six different players hitting from beyond the arc.

Lasalle lifts Lancers

Mariah Lasalle made the most of her first start of the season. She scored 13 points and dished out six assists as Lawrence handed Greater Lawrence (4-1) its first loss of the season. Lancer junior Genesis Santana led all scorers with a season-high 20 points.
