Hanigan on the move?
With the Cincinnati Reds signing free agent catcher Brayan Pena, many media outlets in Cincinnati are speculating that Andover native and Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan could be traded in the near future.
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports that the Ranger and Phillies have both shown major interest in trading for Hanigan, while ESPN’s Buster Olney said the Rays and Yankees could also show interest. And don’t forget that the Red Sox could also have a need at catcher if Jarrod Saltalamacchia does not resign.
Hanigan is coming off an injury-plagued 2013 season in which he hit just .198 while dealing with a wrist injury. But he is better known as a David Ross-type defensive catcher.
Congratulations go out to Londonderry’s Ryan Griffin for catching his first NFL touchdown in the Houston Texans’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
But Ryan, what was up with that dance?
Griffin celebrated the score with a dance best described as a bizarre version of the old “sprinkler” dance move.
This is the NFL Ryan. If you are going to dance, bring it.
It was a big weekend for Merrimack College basketball senior Kevin Regan, who scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a season-opening victory over Wilmington on Friday and added seven points and eight rebounds in a win over Concordia on Saturday. But he isn’t the only athlete in the family.
His brother Dennis, a defensive back for Sacred Heart, grabbed his fourth interception of the season in a win over Duquesne on Saturday.
The Regan parents, from Philadelphia, were there to see both, making a 350-mile round trip to see the brothers play on Saturday. Kevin was playing his games at Bentley University and Dennis had a home game in Fairfield, Connecticut.
