The St Joseph’s Regional Catholic softball team in Salem, NH. recently completed a perfect season, going 13-0 and capturing the Tri-County Class S Division championship, defeating Boynton 7-6 in the final game.
Despite having only two eighth graders among just 11 players, the Eagles, coached by Bill Rastello, outscored their opposition 173-18 during the regular season. In the playoffs, they defeated St Joseph’s of Manchester, NH 14-1, Epping 5-1 and Boynton to win its first championship in over eight years.
The Eagles would regularly play teams that had approximately 35-40 players try out and their rosters would include 16-20 players with at least 6-8 eighth graders.
St. Joseph’s was led by the pitching of Niamh Walker (Salem) and the catching of Madison Rastello (Salem). The other offensive/defensive stars were Taylor Santosuosso (Salem), Meghan Galanos (Atkinson) and Katy Quinn (Salem). Brooke Spillane (Haverhill) was the team’s most improved player.
