Emily Comtois clubbed a grand slam in the top of the ninth to give Windham a 7-3 win over division-leading Con-Val. Freshman Jaime Cleasby had a day to remember with a whopping 16 strikeouts for her first varsity win.
In a rare night match, Andover beat Marblehead 3-1. It might have been 4-1 but the lights went out in Marblehead so the final match was called. Rachel Holzman played a fine match to win at No. 2 singles.
Tucker Lippold had team-highs in assists, service points and aces to power Windham to a 3-1 win over Hollis-Brookline.
Walk on thE wild side
Haverhill took advantage of 23 Pentucket walks en route to a 20-14 win.
Theresa Ross scored four runs and Amanda Roy, Morgan Arsenault and Michaela Kane all scored three times for the Hillies.
Britner’s Gold Glove
Shortstop Katie Britner made two fine plays in the bottom of the eighth to secure PMA’s 15-14 win over Chelsea.
Gabby Salerno scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and also drove in three runs. Molly Quinn scored three runs.
Whittier’s Big 3
Andrew Wells threw a 5-hitter with 10 Ks and no walks as Whittier beat Greater Lowell 5-0 to clinch the CAC Large title outright over the Gryphons.
Nate Frongillo had three hits including a two-run double off the wall in the fourth.
Frongillo and Anthony Licciardello each had three hits. Wells, Licciardello and Frongillo also helped the Cats to the 2010 title.
The Pelham baseball game was called due to rain in the top of the sixth with Pelham’s No. 3 hitter up and two outs. So Mascenic was credited with a 5-4 win.
Pythons coach Billy Beauchesne just shook his head, commenting the rain didn’t seem to be coming down any harder than it had been all day.
