Central Catholic's Tyler Nelson wins Gatorade Player of the Year

Central Catholic senior Tyler Nelson's work isn't done, but that hasn't stopped the awards from coming in.

The Merrimack Valley Conference co-Player of the Year was named Boys Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year for Massachusetts today.

The award covers the 2013-14 season and is based on athletic production and impact this season, his senior year.

Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

Nelson's team is playing in the Div. 1 state finals on Saturday night in Worcester against undefeated and top-ranked Springfield Putnam, the defending champs from last winter.

"I'm incredibly proud of this young man," said Central coach Rick Nault. "Nobody has put in more time than Tyler."
