CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – McDaniel College sophomore Ryan O’Boyle, a former Central Catholic star from North Reading, finished fourth at the NCAA Div. III wrestling championships yesterday to earn All-American status.
O’Boyle started his weekend with a 2-0 day on Friday to assure himself All-America honors. He opened with an 8-3 win over Heidelberg’s Colin McDermitt and then had a pin over Dustin Weinmann of Wisconsin-La Crosse) to advance to the semifinals and assure he would finish no worse than sixth.
Yesterday, O’Boyle fell to the consolation round with a 12-6 loss in the semifinals before wrestling back for fourth.
Former Billerica star Kenny Anderson won the 133-pound crown for the third straight year, helping pace Wartburg to the team title.
