---- — TALIB TALK
Look, I hate the way New England sports fans bash the most recent Boston athlete to leave the local area. It’s often brutal. So take this tidbit from a source to Aqib Talib and his “injury” woes that kept him out of the AFC title loss.
Talib, according to the source, had zero structural damage to ligaments or bones. The doctors found no true malady. He simply took himself out of the game, again according to the source.
GOOD LUCK TODAY
Best of luck to all aspiring high school athletes as spring practices and tryouts open all over the region, most likely indoors.
It’s a trying time for folks, with the individuals all on edge because of tryouts and cuts.
I simply can’t imagine how a kid like Central’s Aaron Hall, who played in the state hoop title game on Saturday night, or Pelham’s Jake Vaiknoras, who played in the state semis and scored his 1,000th point on Friday night with the Pythons, can just flip the switch.
But, as they say, you have to.
ONE FOR MY PEOPLE
Here’s one for us 40-something types.
Word is out that RBI Baseball 14 will arrive at video game stores on April 10. The game is supposed to be a throwback, as in a throwback to the classic 1980s Nintendo RBI Baseball. Now, for my generation, there was no better video game than RBI. And I say that with all due respect to Tecmo Bowl football.
Now if somebody will only re-make “Dig Dug.”
LAWRENCE GIRLS NEED VOLLEYBALL COACH
Just a reminder in case you missed it folks.
Lawrence High is looking for a girls varsity volleyball coach in the fall.
Athletic Director Jim Licciardi is currently hunting down candidates. If you have an interest, contact Licciardi at the school, at 978-722-8473 or James.Licciardi@Lawrence.k12.ma.us.
Have to shake my head in disbelief at Duke hoops coach Mike Krzyzewski, who was last seen whining about the ACC and a lack of respect as the talk of NC State making the NCAAs came up Saturday at the conference tourney.
Coach K told USA Today: “I said to (N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried) at the end of the game, ‘I hope you guys get in.’ I don’t understand it. They won at Tennessee. They probably should have beaten Syracuse twice. I think they’ve played a really good schedule, and they’ve got one of the best players in the country. ... I’ll get in trouble probably for saying it. Like the Atlantic 10, they’re a really good conference. I hear people saying there are six teams in there. Come on.
“I mean, they’re good, but put them in our conference and go through the meat grinder that our conference has to go through. But really ... our league should get more respect. The fact that Pitt comes in here and people are saying they have to do something, come on. Come on, man. I don’t get it. The Clemson team we played last night is a heck of a basketball team.”
Your conference, coach, is down. And for the record. You and your conference have gotten every break, year in and year out.
The rest of the world is catching you, coach. There’s nothing wrong with it.
