CLERMONT, Fla. – After dropping a one-run (4-3) decision to Slippery Rock in its opener yesterday, the Merrimack College softball team responded with a 5-4 victory against Molloy that was shortened by rain, as the Warriors split a two-game set for the third straight day at the NTC Spring Games in Florida.
Powered by one of its best single-inning outputs this season, Merrimack (3-8) roared out to a four-run lead and withheld Molloy down the stretch before the skies opened up, as the Warriors answered a disappointing loss with a confidence-building win.
Alexis Perry took the win after yielding three earned runs over five innings with two strikeouts and a walk while Lindsay Gibbs led the offense, finishing 2-for-2 with a run scored. Jessica Fugazzotto had three RBIs.
Muscaro cited again
After placing 10th in the NCAA Indoor national championships in the 400 over the weekend, Merrimack’s Carly Muscaro was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the third and final time.
Muscaro, who became the first-ever individual in school history to qualify for nationals two weeks ago, ran 56.87 in the preliminary round to finish 10th.
