Final Score

Hockey East cites Cannata

Merrimack College sophomore goalie Joe Cannata has been named Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week. Cannata led Merrimack to a sweep over UMass, making 42 saves for his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win and stopped 63 of 64 shots on the weekend, as the Warriors swept the Minutemen for the first time since 1998. Since returning to the lineup on February 6, Cannata is 4-0-1 with a 1.18 goals-against-average and a .956 save percentage.

Merrimack (13-15-1, 10-11-1 HEA) continues its push for the Hockey East playoffs against Boston College at 7 p.m. today at Conte Forum. The Warriors, unbeaten in five straight, have never posted a six-game unbeaten streak in Hockey East games.

Coming on strong

Trailing by four entering the fourth quarter, Londonderry's girls outscored Manchester Central 17-8 to grab a 44-39 victory in a Class L battle for third place. Savanna Butterfield scored nine of her 13 points in the final frame for the Lancers (12-4 in Class L). Danielle Crutcher played in her first game in five weeks since being ill.

Three-point touch

Stephen Koenig knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to 17 points as Phillips downed Tabor Academy 66-52. Ryan Hartung added three treys for the winners.

Late finishers
