Sanborn’s boys soccer team defeated Hillsboro-Deering 2-1, thanks partly to a goal put in accidentally by a Hillsboro player to tie the score. Austin Clough scored the game-winner for the Indians (4-4).
Owls second twice
The Timberlane boys and girls cross country teams both finished second in a five-team home meet. For the boys, who finished just four points shy of Bishop Guertin, Peter Saviano and Liam Kimball finished second and third respectively while Lauren Oligny was runner-up for the Owls in the girls race.
After dropping its first game of the season Saturday, the Andover field hockey team bounced back with a dominating 4-0 victory over Bishop Fenwick. Brenna Keefe led the attack with a pair of goals and Weezy Gross had a goal and an assist.
Deja vu hat trick
Taylor Schmitz recorded a hat trick for the second straight game as Greater Lawrence tripped up Presentation of Mary, 3-1.
O’Connell by KO
Tom O’Connell of Haverhill Downtown Boxing won his first fight over the weekend. Competing in Fall River in the 165-pound division, he recorded a first round knockout over Carlos Semiey.
Methuen game change
Methuen’s home football game against Dracut this week, originally scheduled for Friday night, has been switched to Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Timberlane’s volleyball team won its fourth straight, ripping Manchester Central in three straight games. Christina Nye had seven kills for the Owls (5-2) and Hailey Lovett had seven aces.
Taking a Chance
Tufts freshman running back Chance Brady of Haverhill had a fine game for Tufts over the weekend, gaining 78 yards in seven carries, with a long run of 32 yards, in a 52-9 loss to Wesleyan.
