Bernard, Whirlaway shine in 30K

Pinkerton Academy cross country coach Amy Bernard of Hampstead had a superb race and the Whirlaway Racing Team stood out again at the Nahant 30K race over the weekend.

In the second to last race of the New England Grand Prix series, Whirlaway won both the masters and seniors division, while Bernard placed fifth overall, with a time of 2:05:54, to lead the open team to third place.

Christin Doneski (2:07:54) and Nancy Corsaro of Methuen were Whirlaway’s next top finishers and Doneski was the top masters finisher while Corsaro won the seniors division.

In men’s competition, the Whirlaway seniors placed first, led by Mike Cooney (1:55:14), with Derry’s Paul Doe (1:58:21) and Derry’s Craig Fram (1:58:51) completing the scoring.

The Whirlaway masters finished third and the open team was fourth, although Brandon Newbould was second overall in the race with a 1:40:52.

The last race in the series is the Manchester Marathon Nov. 3. Heading into the race, Whirlaway is leading in the women’s open, masters and seniors divisions and the men’s masters and seniors division.
