River Hawks defeat Michigan

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — ANN ARBOR — The UMass Lowell River Hawks’ (3-3-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East) handed the No. 4- ranked University of Michigan (4-1-1, 0-0-0 Big 10) its first loss of the season last night with a hard-fought, high-caliber 2-1 win. Sophomore goaltender Connor Hellebuyck held the potent Wolverine offense at bay with 38 saves to lead UMass Lowell to its second win in as many nights.

“More important than the wins is how we competed,” said head coach Norm Bazin. “We came back to playing Lowell style hockey.”

Ryan McGrath got the River Hawks on the board first, tipping home a pass from Joseph Pendenza of Wilmington at the right post.
