---- — Patrick Yale
Haverhill junior Patrick Yale booted a field goal that proved to be the game-winning points and notched a pair of interceptions in key situations. One pick killed a late Lynn English drive and the other, with just over a minute left, clinched the Hillies’ victory in their first playoff game since 2001. It’s no wonder teammate Tommy Maguire called him the best defensive back in the MVC.
Junior running back Markus Edmunds joined the offense late in the first quarter with Central trailing Lexington 14-6. He scored three touchdowns in the next 14 minutes to help spark the Raiders to a resounding 60-28 victory in the Division 1 quarterfinals. Edmunds, who also made some big stops on defense, finished with 106 yards on the ground as the Raiders erupted for 572 yards of total offense.
Andover High junior Chris Nicholas caught footballs from five different throwers in last night’s 39-10 victory over Lawrence. Nicholas caught 5 passes for 112 yards with a pair of TD catches from E.J. Perry IV and one more score from Oliver Eberth. For good measure, he caught a two-point pass from Jack Sylvester. And from his defensive back spot, Nicholas picked off two different Lawrence quarterbacks.
