Eagle-Tribune Swimming All-Stars: Yale recruit Liu named MVP

Yale recruit from Phillips named MVP

Phillips Academy’s Danielle Liu of Andover is headed to swim for Yale next year.

Before heading to college, she ended her high school career in style, setting school records in two individual events and as a member of two relays. She also set New England Prep records in the 200 freestyle and as part of the 400 freestyle relay.

“Danielle has been an amazing swimmer for three years on this great team,” coach Paul Murphy said. “She worked hard every single day — and she got faster because of it. She loves swimming and that is a big part of her success.”

Liu set school records in the 200 yard freestyle (New England Prep record 1:50.03) and 100 breastroke (1:06.30) this winter. She already had the records in the 200 individual medley (2:04.34) and 500 freestyle (4:57:04) and was a member of the school record-setting 200 freestyle relay in 2012.

Liu, a repeat Eagle-Tribune All-Star, attended Western Academy of Beijing from 2009-11.

She’ll be joined on the Yale swim team next year by Big Blue teammate Amy Zhao.
