Andover Legion lost to Gloucester, 2-1, in a wild 13-inning contest.
Ben Murphy went eight shutout innings with a whopping 15 strikeouts. He gave up only two hits and walk two.
“He was unbelievable,” said coach Joe Iarrobino.
Alec Livingston went the final five innings. Neither of his runs were earned and he fanned five and gave up two hits.
Andover snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the 13th. Mike Calabro had a lead-off single. Andy Nason walked and Andrew Bruno was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jack Cox singled in Calabro but Andover couldn’t do any more damage.
Gloucester won it with a single, a walk, an infield error, another walk and a single in the bottom of the 13th.
Bruno and Andrew Deloury had two hits each for Post 8.
Methuen Legion Post 122 tied Middleton 2-2 in nine innings.
Starter Evan Lacroix threw 5.1 innings, scattering five hits and gave up both runs. Andrew Wells went the remaining 3.2 innings. He allowed four hits and fanned six in the shutout relief stint.
Lacroix had a hit and scored a run and Jon Pierce contributed a hit and drove in the second run. Right fielder Jon Parsons fired to first baseman Brady Abraham who nailed a runner at the plate in the fourth inning. Catcher Gary Carbonneau picked off a runner at first in the ninth.
Methuen is now 2-1-1.
Derry Legion Post 9 blasted Dover 14-0. Josh Yaratz fired a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Chris Gerossie was 3 for 4 with six RBIs and three runs. Brandon Paquin was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Joey Murphy went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
Post 9 improved to 3-0 in the district.
Lawrence legion Post 15 beat North Andover 9-1. Fabian Vasquez pitch a two-hit gem. Lawrence got key hits from Darlugi Gonzalez, Nick Gorski, Tom Pelletier and David Quezada.
